Thanjk you.

I think the one thing England haven’t faced is a team with a potent attack, maybe Germany a bit. It’s nicely set up. But a huge challenge for either team.
And the Italians won’t be as honest as the Danes in terms of all of the diving and histrionics. And will bring plenty of their own.
Italy aren’t potent up front though - they seem to do enough to get through. England won’t have faced a midfield as dynamic and technical - that is where the game will be won and lost
I'm loving the moral manoeuvrability going on in regards the dive last night amongst the media and England fans, either they are insistent that because VAR didn't overturn it the decision was correct, or they feel it's justified because of the bad luck that they have had in the past.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Its the modern game though? Minimal contact, penalty, happens all the time. They got away with an obvious backpass though, and the free kick from which they scored was soft.
Our own players (at Liverpool) go down easy, we're ok with that, but obviously this is nasty "ingerlaand" so its not fair

If Southgate has any sense then he will start with Henderson in midfield.
I actually think he might start with a 5-3-2 formation:
And it could end up being a 0-0 or a 1-1 as well I think.
One thing about England last night was the fact that they seemed really really fit. Especially compared with the Danes. That could help them against Italy as well.
Been pretty impressed with how Southgate has managed the squad and set out to win games tbh. First time in a long time there has been an england manager who seems to play the team in front of him.
Henderson should always start for me, but unless England need to step up a gear and go attack them, I cant see him starting. He did really well last night, that was Liverpool Hendo on the pitch for England. Setting the pace, driving the attacks. Love to see him do that.

TBH....I thought there was a backpass last night alright in the first half. Dunno how if/it was mentioned on the other channels, but wasn't picked up on at all on what I was watching. It was clear the defender was picking out the keeper, but knocked it short.
I get what you're saying Fab, but TBH, and I can only speak for myself, I've frequently called out our own during match threads for diving, initiating contact etc.......I cannot stand seeing it and it's worse than ever. Slight contact seems to have become a justification for ridiculous decisions, when it doesn't exist in the rules of the game. A foul is required. It's a contact sport and you'll find more contact in normal play that isn't entertained, but for some reason it's highlighted in the box ??
I'm ****ing sick of it.
VAR was hopefully gonna help in that regard, certainly with regard to match changing decisions, but the implementation and interpretation is still lost and has now had one of its highest profile errors.
Said it last night, but frankly, all peno decisions awarded by the ref should be reviewed by the same regardless of any recommendation from the VAR team. At least then there is accountability. The play is already stopped, so time can be afforded with no follow on play impacted. Theres too much at stake and frankly, players cannot be trusted
As for refs refusing to change their minds ? ....... well, we have that problem already, but a change in approach could lead to a better class of referee IMO, and gradually, we might be able to minimise the cheating/"clever play" in the game.

Picking Declan Rice ahead of a now fit again Henderson is a crime in itself. Henderson was fantastic when he came on. He has to start the final (but he won't).

Phillips and Rice are definitely both defensive midfield players, and that’s been the cause of the turgid football. It’s been effective so far, but bread and butter football against Italy will likely struggle.

I don't disagree with any of that, and I've called Salah and Mane out for it in a few match threads, but the game is what it is now.
VAR has been a massive letdown for me. Clear and obvious diving should be punished harshly, and if they can't decide an offside in 10 seconds, the advantage should go with the attacker.
I wasn't even bothered about England a month ago, but the fume on here and in Wales has pushed me into backing them more than ever. I'm absolutely sick to death of the same people posting the same anti english ****e, "ingerlaand", "knuckle draggers", "hooligans", "racists", its just a constanst stream of negativity.
