The first 20 mins aside Italy were by far the better side and deserved to win. Crazy to say but the early goal didn't really help England, it's the 'small club mentality' of having something to defend and inviting pressure. Really needed to make changes at HT to wrestle back control of the game. I felt when you saw how the sides came out after halftime Italy were the more likely to win

Less chance of missing under (theoretically) less pressure, so more chance of the "bankers" being in position to win/save the day.Originally posted by ChesterDave View PostNah. Disagree. Best penalty takers first. No point saving your bankers til lthe end if you don't get there because others have missed.
It's a constant subject of debate; I watched an item on the the psychology of shootouts with the theory leaning towards saving the best penalty takers until last when the pressure is greater, while Alan Shearer went with the theory of getting the shootout off to a good start by kicking of with the best penalty taker.

I think, in the clear light of day, England will look back on this performance as being extremely disappointing. Not because of the end result.......but England only really attempted anything in the second half of extra time after the initial 20mins.
Very disappointing for English fans."I will make the boys feel your support"

You've got to hope that Saka volunteered to take that penalty.Originally posted by McDermotX View PostGreat to see Southgate going to Saka......haven't seen any interviews or anything, so dunno what the England camp have been saying, but Saka needs that
There were several other more senior pros that i'd have thought would have taken one before him.

Yes, I think it is. You’ve got to score your first.Originally posted by Pepe79 View PostIs it cynical to wonder why the captain and chief goal scorer takes the 1st penalty while a lad who's hardly played a minute all tournament and a teenager are left to take the decisive pressure penalties?Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

Fair play to him..**** pen, granted, but the die was cast with Southgate bringing on Rashford and Sancho for pens when they should have been on to influence the game well before.Originally posted by spud_gun View PostYou've got to hope that Saka volunteered to take that penalty.

Don't understand that.
I've no idea what Rashford's pen record is but I wasn't surprised to see him bottle it. Sancho apparently has form....but I honestly believe experience is what matters in those situations and its not something you can train for."I will make the boys feel your support"
