As if anyone would watch it on the TV over actually going to the game.

I wish a few would so I could get txt easier next time I’m over.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

Premier Sports, and Setanta previously, still show games at 3pm (Leeds v Everton earlier.......but would usually be ourselves or ManU if it was a Sat 3pm)

All about protecting the match-going revenue in England, perhaps a remnant of simpler times, but it is what it is...Pandemic has been the exception.

But they do, if I had wanted to watch villa vs Newcastle it city vs Norwich there was no way to watch this in Dublin yesterday right?

Not that I particularly care about those games but it just seems strange.

Aye, but you're talking about watching any PL game.....that's a completely separate issue to the 3-5pm blackout in the UK.
Having all matches available across a single broadcaster is unlikely to ever happen, certainly clubs would love to have control over a PPV model over all their games if it were a profitable measure and allowed in a market, but as it stands they're extraordinarily well compensated already by Sky etc on an entrenched platform handled independently from them.
Premier Sports, who have the coverage license here in Ireland, have to negotiate for the games in the same manner as Sky and BT, with ManU, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea games obviously being the desired option if they are playing on a Saturday, but it's still a single channel allowing for only one game.

Sailing the high seas, you can see any game you like, but even then it's spread across different sources, but legally, there's nothing to prevent 3pm PL games being broadcast in Ireland unlike the UK, but let's face it, while there is an appetite for the big sides, there's probably little profit margin to be had running multiple channels and paying for all games so the solitary Brighton fan can watch their mighty clash with Brentford.

In Germany, you could see every prem game last year on sky and a few years ago on DAZN, it's possible but perhaps it is something to do with the economics of it. No expert on this industry but it seems strange to me because the actual camera coverage is a sunk cost.

I don't get why whoever would have the rights, wouldn't just chuck it on without any pre or post match stuff.

Ah well, shouldn't matter too much being a Liverpool fan anyways as you point out

Is there any Southampton fans at this, or are Sky playing background crowd noise again?

Hopefully he has. Ole spends all week masterminding his tactics for this match, big Ralf shows up half cut with a **** team (it really is quite a poor side) and hammers him.

                              Oh aye,
Just down to rights and infrastructure in a lot of cases. Also, certainly in places like Germany etc, where the Bundesliga already has a strong standing, the import of foreign football coverage isn't seen as a threat to both it, and other programming, which allows more marketing potential and better deals from the PL, not to mention greater infrastructure in place for media delivery.
Ireland is in the (un)fortunate position of already having a Sky/BT platform in line with the UK, so are subject to whichever licensing is in place for match coverage on a particular weekend - in fact, Sky operated outside of this for a couple seasons a few years back and offered 3pm coverage on one channel only available in Ireland, but now it's left to the current rights holder, Premier Sports, who can show 50 something matches I think, Sat and midweek.....I think our game against Palace next month is on Premier.

I look forward to listening to the valuable insight of Kenny Cunningham that day about how Klopp doesn't know what he's doing
