I think that's quite unfair on him tbh, over his time here he excelled at right wing (when we were fairly ****e and he transformed us to a degree), left wing and striker. All the while he worked his bollocks off defensively every single game.

Of course he benefitted from our system, but surely you can be world class in the role you play in a system?

My point was that you take him out of the system that our then elite stats gurus determined he was born to play and he'd be nowhere near as effective. Which has been the case at Bayern (so far)

Looking at our transfers its been the case with many of them tbs. Taking players out of relative obscurity and then suddenly they are world class (for us). Salah, Jota, Robbo et al

Salah was doing very well at Roma for the two seasons before we got him and was regularly getting into team of the season listings. He was a 1 in 2 goal scorer from the wing in Serie A for his entire time at Roma. We bought him just as he was starting to enter his peak years.


As for Mane now looking nowhere close to how good he looked for us in his prime, well that is probably more to do with him being a few years past his prime. He was getting double figures in the league for each season he was at Southampton, then as with Salah, we bought him as he entered his peak years.


Think both Salah and Mane would have been big successes for whatever big club bought them at that point in their careers, we were just lucky that we got them and had a manager that was able to get them performing top their max capabilities.

Edit - just realised you meant compared to LFC rather than how they were previously under Gerrard.

Though their points per game since Emery took over is better than ours this season.
