Ars are supposedly after Rice so him and Caciedo looks v expensive in one summer. I wouldn’t rule out Chelsea, United and even City (whose midfield is ageing and Phillips is supposed to be off). For me, he’s absolutely what we need….. he’d be a transformative signing
I suspect with Caciedo that if he were to move to Liverpool, Arsenal or Chelsea that within a few years he would be agitating for a move to Spain and being quite vocal about wanting his move either through his agent or through his training ground actions.
A team like City seem to be immune to the lure of Spain for the most part when it comes to their players in their prime. They get their claws into you and you are there until they are happy to replace you.
Massive wages and the best legal teams money can buy probably play a part

Caicedo would be brilliant alright. Him sitting would allow Trent so much more space and time on the ball.
Brighton are feckin brilliant at signing young players. Ferguson looks brilliant too. As does that Enciso fella. Both really young.
I reckon that Billy Gilmour will be a brilliant player for them next year

They do have the advantage though of being able to take punts on highly rated young players as they can drop them more or less straight into their first team and give then time to grow.
Whereas a club like us could not give a young player the same amount of first team minutes straight away.
Gives clubs like Brighton the first crack at a lot of players whilst the bigger clubs then wait for those players to get enough minutes under their belts to show they might be ready to step up a level and of course then pay a premium for getting a more ready (for a bigger club) player.
Was not so many years ago that we were all praising Southampton, Leicester, Derby, West Ham etc as being the club that churned out great young players.
Brighton are just the latest club in that line imo.
Have no idea though if their strike rate is really high in terms of who they buy or if it is a case of a number of years in which they struck gold six or seven times and then in years to come there will be a drop off in them producing players that go for massive fees.
Would still not say no to a few of their players past and present though

I might be wrong, It wouldn't be the first time. But the difference with Brighton is that these are all players brought in from around the world due to the club being run so well off field. Were all those other clubs you mention just having it lucky in having a good crop of youngsters coming through?
I agree though, they will struggle to kick on from there current parrot pit. The big clubs will take the best players and they will have to go again._____________________________________

Southampton at one point seemed to get good players through their own ranks but also from other clubs home and abroad.
West Ham seem/seemed to do likewise.
If we look further afield at say the French league, it seems every five or ten years one club hits a run of form in finding great young players for a few years, then that fades (maybe scouts leave or they simply bleed a market dry) and another club then starts finding great young players from another country.
But still think it is easier for those clubs, especially the UK ones as even a mid to lower table PL club can outspend the vast majority of mainland European clubs save for the really big clubs in those leagues, as the bar is set lower as to what counts as success on the pitch and as such more gambles can be taken.
The big clubs rarely will take the gambles though and, as said earlier, will pay a premium instead in order to go after a more sure thing once the players have proven themselves to a certain level.
A gamble for a club like Liverpool is to buy a Mane or a VVD from the likes of Southampton once those players have shown what they can do against better teams whereas the Southamptons and Brightons of the world gamble on those players before they have shown they can play against better teams.I don't hate people. You could say Darwin and Carvalho fit into that bracket. Players we’d usually not get at the stage we did and rather wait to see how they develop elsewhere. But we took the chance and we’ll have to wait and see if it works out. Both clearly have potential. Where as Gakpo seems to fit our usual target better and we can see how good he’s looked so far.

100% There is a natural order to things, Maybe its becuase now these unearthed talents are going for stupid money it looks like Brighton are doing better than the others mentioned but then thats just market forces.
Also its easier for these players to get regular games and become brilliant players. They come to a top 4 team as unknowns and will struggle to get the opportunity to play._____________________________________

They wanted him when he was at Benfica, They nearly bought him for £25million in 2021. Not sure they wanted him before enfica.Originally posted by Irishnev View PostOn Brighton - they tried really hard to get Nunez before he signed for Benfica…… if their scouts saw something…..
