Whenever you watch Newcastle and arsenal you quickly realise just how disadvantaged teams are when they don’t throw themselves to the ground constantly. It makes a massive difference to the decisions given over the course of 90 mins, especially in games when every foul is a yellow. Everyone expects that part of the role of the referee is to minimise cheating, but they encourage it hugely.

it’s the scourge of the modern game. Woeful to watch.

I guess you need to draw a line somewhere. And nothing with VAR ever takes 5 seconds.

He does. Loses the ball quite cheaply pretty often, but when he doesn’t he looks very good. Some of his runs off the shoulder have been excellent.
