    Up and coming managers

There are a few good british managers in the Championship this year who's next move could well be to a premiership club: Paul Simpson, Billy Davies, Steve Cotterill

Simpson worked wonders with Carlisle and got them promoted and now is doing a fine job at Preston. It wouldn't be a surprise if they came up.

Billy Davies did a great job with Preston last year - and got them to the play-off final. He has since moved on to Derby and after an initial slow start has got them playing well and moving up the table.

Another is Steve Cotterill who is working wonders at Burnley. He's been around for a few years Cotterill but I think he suffered due to his time at Sunderland with Howard Wilkinson - but he looks to be back on track now.

If you add Dave Jones (Cardiff) and George Burley (Soton) into the mix it shows that there are some decent managers around. I also believe Denis Wise will turn Leeds around in a year or two. Ian Holloway of Plymouth is always worth listening to, as is Mickey Adams of Coventry and Tony Pulis looks to finally have woken Stoke City from their slumber (albeit he did sign Salif Diao!). I suppose Mick McCarthy and Roy Keane probably deserve a mention too.

I know most of you probably aren't interested in anything outside of the premiership but the Championship has probably never been as strong, with some decent managers striving to reach the premiership.

paul simpson is doing a very good job at preston i would love to see more premiership clubs getting a lower league manager instead of some over-rated foreign coach

Dunfermline's new manager Stephen Kenny - he returned to help Derry city lift Ireland's FA cup today - excellent young manager - he'll do well with Dunfermline

I agree AM - that was the initial train of thought for my thread but I changed it whilst I was typing. But yes - look at Ade Boothroyd at Watford to see what can be done when you appoint a young hungry manager.

out of all of them, I only count 3 as potential up and coming as most have been there done that already.

          Wise - No way
Simpson - Done great so far at Carlisle and Preston
          Keane - Not sure

Geraint Williams at Colchester is doing a fine job.

The thing is though that as has been seen with Peter Taylor being a good manager at that level and even a really good coach isn't necissarily a sign of being able to do the job at Premiership level.

I think Burley would be the best of the managers mentioned and Southampton have a really successful youth setup and some good players for the Championship level, so hopefully they wil be in the PL soon.

No I like Coleman, he's a good manager. But he's hardly up and coming is he...and the rolly eyes were mainly cos of the SHOCK HORROR Welsh self-obsessiveness.

So I'm not the only one who thinks he is a good manager.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.
