Dein issues G14 warning to Fifa

Dein issues G14 warning to Fifa

    G14 chairman David Dein

Dein wants Fifa to reconsider its position

Fifa must drop a proposal to limit the number of foreign players fielded by European clubs or face legal action, says Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein.

Fifa boss Sepp Blatter has proposed that European clubs must field a minimum of six home players.

But Dein, chairman of the G14 group of top clubs, said: "This is totally illegal and it will be challenged.

"If Fifa want to light a fire then so be it, but it will be a very hot one. I hope this idea doesn't go any further."

G14, which represents 18 of Europe's richest clubs, is at odds with the world governing body over a number of issues.

It is also involved in two court cases related to the release of international players and compensation should they get injured.

Dein said: "I appeal to FIFA for a period of calm. We are currently on the road to resolving a lot of the problems in the game, so there is no need to cause any more headaches."

Blatter believes his rule would protect the game at national level and bring clubs closer to the fans.

However, many within the sport, including European football's governing body Uefa, think the proposal is a breach of European law and rules of a free labour market in the European Union

But don't forget when he talks on behalf of the G14, that he talks on behalf of us as well, which is alarming as we would have to sign up to the accord before it released to the press.

And still the tscum are not invited to the table - bwahahahahaha!!

I agree with G14 on this.

Blatter is only interested in increasing the revenue of FIFA.

He wants the clubs to do the job of International FA's and pay the Bill too.

There is no doubt that the proposed Rule changes are against European law and any legal challenge will prove this.

I'm tired of Blatter's interference in the Game. His Agenda is always to enrich FIFA and the International FA's at the expence of clubs.

The clubs are expected to pay the wages of their stars whilst they are playing in meaningless International Friendlies that only serve to enrich the FA's. They have No say whether a player carrying a slight Injury can be rested. They have to accept it when their players are injured, pay the wages and rehab of the injured players and also accept when the International FA's dont even have the decency to ensure that players return on time.

And Now Blatter wants to force them to do the job of the FA to develop young players.

It's just power politics. Who you believe depends on who you want to win.

On the surface maybe we should support the clubs because Liverpool is one of the 18 members. Then again maybe the clubs simply want to cream off all the money they can and if that means a European league, or no World Cup, then that's what they'll do. So maybe we should support the likes of UEFA and FIFA because otherwise the clubs' self-interest will jeopardise some, perhaps virtually all, of the things we like about football. The only problem is that they're also self-interested - doing anything that perpetuates or expands their power and wealth and status.

They'll come to a deal like UEFA and G14 did with the Champions League, like the FA and the clubs did with the Premier League, like they always will because at some point it will be in both FIFA's and the G14's interests to do so. Whether or not it will be in fans' interests (whatever they may be) will sadly be entirely beside the point.
              .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
