We're all off to the tescopolis, the tescopolis, the tescopolis,

The leaving of Liverpool ? "The Tescopolis Stadium," [with Tesco and Knowsley MBC in Kirkby], to be announced tonight

"It's not the leaving of Liverpool that's grieving me
But my darling [Goodison] when I think of thee."

After nearly 115 years at Goodison, the end appers nigh, as we have signed a deal with the retail gargantuan, Tesco to build a new stadium. It is, in fact, a three-way deal, involving the club, Tesco, and KMBC [Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council].

The deal is not an ipso facto contract for the construction of a stadium, to a time and budget, but is moreover a strategic partnering agreement, a framework agreement if you will, that will see the partners exploring certain recognised possibilities, within established parameters. This will include the views of the fans and the affordability and logistical feasibility of siting a 50,000 seater, world-class stadium in a location identified in Kirkby. Kirkby is an area I know well, having worked on many projects within the Knowsley area. It is a region that is adjacent and to the north-east of Liverpool. It is a tough and run-down, Liverpool-overspill "town," where the locals play "tick" with hatchets. Knowsley is a borough that is only really known for its safari park and of late, the area that Anthony Walker was murdered in. This would be a very welcome and useful regeneration multiplier for the area.

This news is a slap in the face for Liverpool City Council [the crew who couldn't run a bath and preside over failure after failure: King's Dock, Trams, Fourth Grace etc etc]. Many will have no pity for a local authority that in the opinion of some, failed to offer proper support during the absolute fiasco that was the King Dock.

It is no coincidence, that Terry Leahy, chief executive of Tesco, was raised in Liverpool and is well-known as being an obsessive blue, a "good Evertonian" indeed.

Tune into Radio Merseyside to hear the breaking news confirmed tonight.

If Everton move to Kirkby - will they be known as KFC?
