    Liverpool battle Barcelona for teenage whiz

    Liverpool hope to see off competition from Manchester United and Spain to complete the signing of Hamilton Academicals midfielder James McCarthy this week.

    McCarthy has had trials at Liverpool and talks are already underway over a fee for the 16 year-old, but the Premiership giants must move quickly to see off United and interest from Barcelona and Valencia.

    Along with Liverpool, McCarthy has also trained at Deportivo La Coruna and the impression he made alerted the interest of bigger Spanish clubs.

    Argentinian left back Emiliana Insua officially joins Liverpool this week, and it's hoped McCarthy will be next in the ranks.

          The only real surprise here Milky is that you did not claim this as your own.....
          On awaiting Everton's arrival for a derby game at Anfield, Bill Shankly gave a box of toilet rolls to the doorman and said: "Give them these when they arrive – they'll need them!"
