I agree with what Disco says about upping the tempo and committing more players forward later in the game etc, but I also think we struggle to get the first goal partly because we tend to find it tougher than the other big teams when the opposition are not required to attack us and leave spaces the way they would if they were a goal down.
I think that's a personnel thing - we do not have the flair to get opposition back lines running towards their own goal the way Rooney/Ronaldo/Giggs can. Gerrard does it for us, a couple of others can too, but perhaps not with the regularity the other players mentioned can.
Garcia certainly has the technical ability to do it but perhaps not quite the pace, Bellamy has a bit of both and has started to prove quite effective at doing this when running from deep which is good to see. But Gerrard aside, they can't do it with the same regularity as players like Giggs, Rooney, Ronaldo, Henry, Robben, Cole, SWP, Lennon etc
To take us up to that next level we need our wide players to get in behind more often rather than be tracked back to the by-line and try to get in a cross before all the defenders have taken up their positions and the forwards have become static. If we had a couple more players like that we'd find it easier to score that first goal.Like blood on iron

you dont need to be any better than 50/50 in the transfer market - AS LONG AS YOU HAVE THE STRENGTH TO MOVE ON THE 50% THAT ARENT UP TO ITOriginally posted by DJS View PostShambolic is harsh. 50/50 i'd say.
its called admitting you got it wrong eg: fergiescum spent £26Million on veron - sold him for a £14million loss in a heartbeatLast edited by enema of the state; 05-01-07, 12:49 PM.drunk knows best

This is very very sad to admit, but the Veron deals were used in a pricing article in an old Actuary magazine (probably the only one I've ever read).
No matter what way you calculated it, the £14m for Veron was good piece of business based on his remaining contract

To be honest I don't see much wrong with his post so don't see what you are getting at, I doubt many managers achieve anything better than 50/50 with their transfers, apart from maybe Mourinho who could go out and get exactly what they want from the get go.Originally posted by Speedy View PostWhere should i start in demolishing this post?
In fact if Rafa had more in the way of funds, I'm sure we'd have a very good transfer record apart from one or two.Thomas Hicks Senior
