Only people who havent played football themselves cant understand the point of friendlies...The result doesnt matter but they are VERY important. That humiliation last night, only a week before the CL game, is really worrying.

I remember Manchester United lost 5-0 in a Charity Shield game (to Newcastle I think) years back...they went on to win the title that year. A lot of teams have went on to win the title after a poor pre-season whereas we have traditionally faltered after a good one. Let's hope this is a good omen...

They are important, but foreverything but the result.....i remember when we used to be succesful in the eighties .....We always used to lose our friendlies
