On the BBC, as reported on the news feed here, xabi made the below comments in response to the speculation about interest in Spain.
Maybe I'm just being a bit paranoid, but there is no big 'Not going anywhere' type statement, but a rather non-committal, 'I'm under contract and happy but I don't want to comment on rumours' type statement.
Surely it would put all the rumours to bed by stating that that he sees his future at the club and that he is not interested in any of the reported interest?
I am almost certainly reading too much into this, but he doesn't sound like he has ruled out going back to Spain as an option. What do you guys think?
I'm staying at Liverpool - Alonso
Liverpool now have second-placed Chelsea in their sights
Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso has brushed aside speculation linking him with a return to Spain.
The 25-year-old, who signed from Real Sociedad in 2004, told the Liverpool website: "I do not speak about the rumours of my return to Spain.
"I have a contract signed with the Reds and I am happy at this club.
"Third place is very important for morale after the problems in the first months of the league. Now our objective is to consolidate the effort."
Liverpool climbed above Bolton to third in the Premiership after an emphatic 3-0 win against Sam Allardyce's men on New Year's Day.
Alonso is hoping the team can reel in second-placed Chelsea, who are eight points ahead in the table.
"Now Liverpool are playing to our best level of the season," added Alonso, who has attracted interest from Atletico Madrid and Barcelona according to Spanish media sources.
