    A "What if?" thread

Yes - pointless I know, but, if we had beaten Chelsea, Arsenal and Scum away earlier this season, the table would like this:

    Man Utd - 51 Pts
    Liverpool - 49 pts
    Chelsea - 45 pts
    Bolton - 39 pts
    Arsenal - 36 pts

Had we beaten Bolton away too, we'd be top of the league.

I think I can see where we have gone wrong. Dropping points to the likes of Blackburn and Shefield Utd is less important than dropping points to our main rivals.
    Oh I don't know.

      Arf arf.

I do think this illustrates that the 'slow start' was less important than the games against our main rivals though.
      Oh I don't know.

I thought "pointless" was the operative word.

No offence, dom. At least it also applies to what we really got out of those games.
          .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

There's an interesting point to be made in this thread though - if we had those fixtures against our rivals at home instead of away the table could look very different. For a team like us which is Rafa has geared specifically to perform better in the later stages of the season a kinder fixture list could have made all the difference

Yes but there's also another point which is that since we've yet to play any of the biggest teams at home, our home record is built on playing lesser teams so it might flatter us.

You can look it at it loads of different ways. That's why ultimately all that matters is where we all finish when we've all played each other twice.

Yep - indeed, that's why I said it.

I still found it interesting though.
