OK, so Chavs, Man Utd and Arsenal.
It's poor but to be honest I wouldn't be too bothered if we had a better record against the lesser teams. It's points dropped to Sheff Utd, Boro, Bolton that pisses me off.Originally posted by Gordon Brown

It pished me off as well when we lose the odd match to a smaller team. But, we still have to get them big points from the other 3.Originally posted by Red Chilli View PostOK, so Chavs, Man Utd and Arsenal.

It's more enjoyable to ram it down their throats & good morale booster for the lads.18-5-7-8-3

When you have the confidence and know how to consistently beat the other top 4 members week in - week out, without going into a match with some trepidation, then occassionally losing to the other teams below will become a shock factor rather than the norm.Originally posted by REDSCOUSER View PostIt pished me off as well when we lose the odd match to a smaller team. The cocky factor is lacking at the moment.

I hate to say it, but we need a Cantona-type signing. A player with a wnning mentality with talent to match, who can produce the qulaity and unpredictability which turns key games, with indiviudal moments of brilliance. Someone the oppossing fans love to hate / are frightened of. For example, when Henry and van Persie walked onto the pitch tonight, I thought to myself, "I hope those 2 don't have good games tonight". They didn't but Henry still managed to nail the final nail in our coffin near the end.
That's what we're missing. Someone to take us to the next level.

That is the first time Rafa has lost to Arsenal at home. We have also beaten Chelsea twice albeit in cup games which Arsenal havent, and Man U only once have.
We shall have to see how Chelsea and Man U at home go before judging on this IMHO.
We lacked enough variety to win today, Bellamy should have been brought on with 20 to go might have changed the pattern.08-09 Dirk monitor
5 goals (target 15)
3 assists also........

I think we are a few decisive players away from a very good side. Today I think we conceded at least two goals that had Reina playing we would not have conceded. Teams always try to work Riise and today it played off, his form has been poor for a while now and I think it might be time to see more of Aurelio. It would have been interesting to see how much better we would have played with Momo in the side, Alonso was doubled up on all through the second half and Gerrard was nt as rampaging as we would like to see, although Alonso's booking might have meant he was being asked to limit the chance of Alonso being sent off.
We have changed the way we play this season, we are far more offensive than we have been for some time and the weaker teams struggle to live with us, the top 3 have enough quality to frustrate us and counter. Arsenal did it very well today. We were either protecting Dudek today or scared of Arsenal's pace because we dropped off too far every time they attacked and brought some of their runners back onside as a consequence. We need to beat one of the top 3 playing the way we wish to go on to gain the confidence necessary to mount a title challenge. A bit more quality in the final third would be welcome, Garcia can give you by working the space between defence and midfield but today he was poor.
It is an ongoing process, we are nt too far away; but too far away if you get what I mean.

We are to slow against the best teams. We can get away with that against midtable and bottom teams but not against the top teams.Just believe and you never know what will happen.
According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

So true.Originally posted by REDSCOUSER View PostVery poor indeed mate. We will never win #19 if we cant beat the other big 3.

In fact this season we've faltered against most decent sides. Tottenham away was by far our biggest scalp of the season. Hammered by United, Everton and Arsenal in the league and beaten by Chelsea. It's just not good enough.
Regardless of our recent run I'm inclined to think we're not a very good side this season. I'm worried about what could happen to us against Barca if we don't wise up.

The truth is we are some way off the other top 3 sides when we play them. This season we've played Arsenal twice, chelsea once & Man U once and lost all 4. Not only that in 3 of the 4 games we've been totally outplayed. Only against Chelsea away have we looked like we may get something out the game. It was the same story last season as well.
The main problem we have in my view is a lack of a genuine goal threat in attacking areas. Man U have Saha, Rooney, Giggs & Ronaldo. Chelsea have Drogba, Robben & Lampard. Arsenal have Henry, Van Persie & Rosicky. We have SG and sometimes Garcia. Yesterday we never really threatened them. The only time I felt we may score was when SG burst forward into their box. However, this left us vulnerable to their counter attacks. SG & Alonso gave the back 4 little protection yesterday.
All in all a very disappointing day & the summer can't come quickly enough as we badly need some top quality attacking options if we are to rival the other 3 top teams.AKA Heighway No9
