    Ljungberg and Bent.

Arsenal are putting midfielder Freddie Ljungberg up for sale.

The News of the World says Ljungberg was told the bombshell news he could leave the club last week.

And an Arsenal insider confirmed: "Freddie never saw it coming.

    "He's completely stunned.

"He has been frustrated by the amount of games he has played recently but his heart and soul has always been with Arsenal. He had no idea the club was planning to force him out. He can't believe he's been treated like this."

Now the Swede will even be offered to Premiership rivals Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool as Arsenal try to off-load him during the transfer window.

And Portsmouth, Newcastle, Everton, Tottenham, West Ham and Watford will also be on red-alert now the 29-year-old - one of Arsenal's highest-paid players on around £70,000 a week - is surplus to requirements.

    RAFA HELL BENT ON DARREN
EXCLUSIVE TRANSFER WINDOW LATEST: £15M TUG-OF-WAR FOR ENGLAND STRIKER Reds to battle it out with Blues
    By Simon Mullock

LIVERPOOL have joined the race to sign Charlton's Darren Bent - and boss Rafa Benitez could raise the funds for a bid by selling Craig Bellamy to Aston Villa for £9million.

Benitez is a long-term admirer of the England star and is ready to fight Chelsea for his services in the knowledge he can give the kind of guarantees about regular first-team football that Jose Mourinho cannot.

Addicks boss Alan Pardew has stated he wants big-money for Bent, who is currently sidelined for five weeks with a knee injury, and Benitez will have to sell if he wants to make a serious move.

Newcastle are still in the hunt for Peter Crouch and are ready to pay £12m, although the striker insists he wants to stay at Anfield.

Now Villa are also ready to offer the Merseysiders a cash boost, by making a move to take Welsh striker Bellamy to the Midlands.

Villa boss Martin O'Neill is in the money after being given a substantial transfer budget by new owner Randy Lerner and a top striker is his No.1 priority.

O'Neill knows Bellamy well, having rescued him from Newcastle with a loan deal that saw the striker resurrect his career with a successful spell at Celtic.

The Irishman knows Bellamy has not reached the standards expected of him since moving to Anfield last summer when a £6m bid triggered a get-out clause in his contract at Blackburn.

O'Neill is also aware that the Anfield club will be looking for a substantial profit on their initial outlay, but will not be put off by their demands.

Benitez feels that a lack of firepower has cost his team this season as they have failed to keep up in the title race.

While Bent has hit double figures in a team entrenched near the bottom of the table, Bellamy has struck six times in a team battling for honours.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

absolute bollocks regarding Bellers to Villa....no chance

I wouldnt mind Ljungberg though, he would add some attacking flair to the right.

Ljungberg is a shadow of the player he used to be. I wouldnt go for him. His wage demands would be too high.

How long is his remaining contract at Arsenal?

Has Wenger ever sold a player that has proved useful afterwards? Only one I can think of is Anelka and he's not really been that much of a loss for them either as they got Very Good money for him

I like Bent, but would be gutted if we pay more than 8-9 million for him

Ljungberg have a contract until 2009. They probably want to sell him because he is injured most of the time.

Plus the repayments on their New Stadium doesnt allow for a Transfer Budget. They need to raise money by selling players and lowering the wage bill

I've heard this was a 'goer' from two different people and posted it a while back in the same post that first broke the Crouch to Newcastle move.

Not saying either are gonna happen mind! Not like I've got inside info or anything - just passing on what was told.

There must be a reason to why Bellamy didn't play yesterday. I doubt that he would have been on the bench if he wasn't fit.

Maybe Rafa didn't want him cup-tied.

I could perhaps see Crouch being sold, but Bellamy? Nah.

I'm not sure how it works, but irregardless, Bellamy ain't getting sold.

Crouch on the other hand... I think that if he doesn't leave in now, he'll be gone in the summer.
