I don't know for sure whether or not he wanted to sell him but it's perfectly feasible that Rafa's saying that either to build Dudek's confidence ('I have faith in you, Jerzy'), to suggest to anyone interested in him that only a decent price will prise him away from Anfield or both.
Don't see any sense in that whatsoever. How is it going to boost someone's confidence to say that if in actual fact they know full well you have agreed to sell them, having asked you in the first place?

It was quite obviously Jerzy that wanted to leave and Rafa wouldn't let him. There were numerous quotes from Rafa, Jerzy, and Jerzy's agent over a period of time about the situation. Before the January transfer window opened last year Rafa said...

We are happy with Jerzy and we want to keep him. Most players that do not play for their club want to go, but he has a contract, he has to stay and we want him to stay.
Hardly sounds like he was trying to find a buyer for him does it?

I understood exactly what Rafa said by that statement, The time of the Dude has most definitely passed

I'll say it again, fair play to Rafa, he is a man of his word even if it cost us the FA Cup, Once he has not promised Dia a start in the Champions Lg I am fine with that.

On the day we got kicked to **** off the ball, you could see it from the very first kick off Arsenal wanted it more on the day, we deserved to loss and so be it.

Heard that Rafa wanted to give Jerzy a contract extension next season. Jerzy is mulling over it as we speak.

I think he's an excellent keeper who should have been moved on to further his career elsewhere when Rafa decided to replace him.

Saturday must have been hard for him to recapture form after sitting on the bench for nearly two years.

He'll always be a hero after Istanbul... remember him for that.

The goals weren't entirely down to Jerzy. Yes, his lack of match practice meant he missed what should have been relatively comfortable saves, but the shots should never have reached him in the first place.

On the first goal, dare I say it, Stevie G was at fault. Instead of throwing himself in front of the shot, ala Carra, he pulled away from it.

On the second goal, it was again Stevie G. He could easily have got a tackle in before the shot but pulled out. Mind you, so did a few other just before that.

On the third, Carra should have hoofed that one into touch instead of trying the fancy stuff.

Bit harsh to blame any one person in my opinion. It's a team game and everyone contributes to defeat as much as they do to victory.
Life is NOT a journey to the grave with the goal of arriving safely in a prettily preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways in a shower of gravel and party shards, thoroughly used, utterly exhausted, and loudly proclaiming: "F*** ME, that was BRILLIANT!"

Mate, I'll always remember him for Istanbul, that was a one off performance where everything that could go for a goalkeeper did. Istanbul was amazing for Dudek. He lets in 3 first half goals, none of which were his fault, he does his usual fumble which leads to panic in our box, produces a great save from Shevchenko's free kick and then gets LUCKY with that amazing double save from Shevchenko. He then saves those penalties where he comes off 1-2 feet off his line before each peno is taken...not exactly in the rule book.

He was a fantastic goalkeeper for the first season and a half of his LFC career. But in his second season it all fell apart for him, against United, Middlesborough etc. After these two debacles he never really regained his confidence and in my opinion he lost it with several disastrous performances. He's been average ever since. Istanbul was HIS day and should've been his swan song....

Therein lies the problem ... three times he was called upon, and three times he went missing. That effort for the 3rd goal was just a reminder of how **** he really has become.

Reina should be in goal for every game unless injured ... and even then I'd still consider him ahead of Jerzy
