I'm sorry, but when did Mascherano suddenly become a better player to win the title than Sissoko?

I still maintain than Alonso disrupts the balance of the team and so I will have a pop at.....

I still believe that we are 4 short and even with the summer purchases and a plethora of left siders (Riise, Aurelio, Kewell, Speedy, Warnock, Zenden) we aren't really good enough down that side.

I'd love to see a classy target man, in the Shearer mould, ahead of Kuyt. Gerrard is best in the middle no doubt, but he's only good when he's got a reliable defensive partner ie Sissoko, not Alonso. But if we needed a play maker (I love Kaka, but I can only dream!) Gerrard would have to get on the right. Then we we need good attacking left winger, who can cross balls and score goals. Any ideas? Vincente still springs to mind.

Also if you are just picking random names, then how come there are any liverpool players (apart from gerrard) in a 1st 11 that is effectively your dream team?

None of our players would get in the chelsea or man utd teams, gerrard aside.

I should have elaborated more......I'm picking Masherano on the form he showed for Argentina. I didn't think I picked Random names. Villa & Alves have been targets for Rafa for the last 2 seasons, Mascherano is a target for the transfer window. Heinze and Robben have limited first team appearances at their clubs and are premiership proven so if we have DIC cash to spend they could be options. I started the thread for a bit of banter!!

I agree i can't see Villa signing for us but i can dream! Ye i agree with your formation and also when defending it could turn into a 4-5-1. Also this way we will stop this hoffing it upfield tactic when Crouch plays. We will have to become more of a slick passing side and i beleive with those players that is possible.

That starting XI is capable of beating any team but its all about squad and tactics to win the league not just what your best 11 players are.

I think that a formation similar to the one used by Manchester United - 4-2-2-1-1 sort of affair is pretty much the ideal if you can find two decent wingers and an attacking midfielder.

I think there is a chance that in the coming seasons Gonzalez & Pennant will become good enough on the wing but at the minute this is patently untrue. I honestly can't think of any world class wingers who I would like to be seen bought in though (who aren't already at a top teams such as United who wouldn't sell them to us).

Everyone has pointed out the fullbacks I would like to sign already.

I think that Kuyt would be an ideal front man in this formation, but you would need pace in the other front three players.

These wish lists are fine, but even with DIC investment, I can only see Rafa buyin one super player per summer. For arguements sake, assuming he buys Villa for £18m, I cannot see hime buying SWP/Bale/Richards. The only ecxeptions to this may be Alves who he has been after for ages and maybe Mascerano who seems to be on the discount shelf.
