9 Against 1 for Us against the Top 3 Clubs

Thats a worrying statistic and something worth munching over.

In the four competitive games this season against Manure, Chavski and Arsenal we've conceded 9 and scored 1

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

            Yes it is worrying
It also highlights our inability (often) to score away from home.
Whether the return league fixtures against the aforementioned clubs will show an upturn in our fortunes remains to be seen, on the evidence of Saturday's game I don't feel too positive.

Last season ,if memory serves me rightly, we lost both league games to Chelsea, drew at home and lost away to ManUre and won at home, lost away to Arsenal. Not great

Haha it’s amazing how many people don’t know. Can’t decide if that’s a good or a bad thing.

It is a very concerning stat. and one that shows we aren't quite good enough yet. It wasn't much better last season. From memory we took only 4 points off the other 3 big sides although we did beat Man U & Chelsea in the cup.

The harsh truth is we don't quite have the quality in the final 3rd to regularly beat the other top sides. The only 'special' player we have is SG, and lets be honest if you stop him, you invariably stop the team. We all know the problem, we need more quality attacking players. The problem is a hard one to fix though, even with cash. without it, its near impossible.

It's not as straightforward as it seems. Last season United came to Anfield, got everyone behind the ball and had just one effort on goal - an apologetic free-kick that bounced about three times as it rolled to our goalie. We completely outplayed them but failed to take advantage of our clear superiority. They had Rooney so deep on the left he was getting in the way of the full-back. In the return game we spurned a couple of outstanding chances, had more attempts than they did and fell to a sucker goal from a set-piece right at the death.

We only lost away to Arsenal bacause of a moment of madness when Gerrard made his suicidal back-pass near the end at 1-1, when the commentator had just said that Liverpool looked the more likely to win.

And this season we played Chelsea off the park at Stamford Bridge, hit the woodwork twice, were denied once again a nailed-on penalty, only to lose to a wonder strike completely against the run of play (having deservedly beaten them at Cardiff in the Community Shield).

If we'd been battered in all the games you mention I'd see your point, but the bare results haven't told the whole story.

Mate I completely agree. I've said it before but I'll say it again, we're really not a very good side and Rafa needs to make a lot of changes for next season if we're to properly challenge.

Bottom line, I can't remember other than the Arsenal game with the Mellor goal, when we have beaten Arsenal, Manu or chelsea.

Ironically, under Hou, we were beating the top teams but losing against the lesser teams.

And we beat Arsenal at home in the league last season, late Garcia winner. Momo was immense.
