Rafa to sign a new keeper?

Liverpool are attempting to sign Sampdoria keeper Daniele Padelli in a six-month loan deal.

The 21-year-old has caught Rafa Benitez's eye and is tipped to fly to England this week to discuss the move.

Although currently owned by Sampdoria, Padelli has been on loan at Crotone in Serie B.

Benitez made the controversial decision to replace number one Jose Reina with Jerzy Dudek for the FA Cup clash with Arsenal and the Pole was beaten three times during the Anfield defeat.

Padelli, who played for Italy in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship, is an Under-21 international who will expect to train with the Reds' first team.

Do we need another keeper. I can't see reina going and surely Carson is proving that he could be a real asset for us now - he's getting plenty of practice at Charlton - of course he has let in a few, but then again he's getting about 5 or 6 matches worth of goalkeeping practice in every game he plays.

Exactly the Dude is going in the Summer we need 3 good keepers at anytime, Pepe Carson and ??

I'm sure Carson would have enquired, prob via his agent, if he was going to be a No1 from the summer, and obviously would have been told no - fight for it, and therefore might have decided that he prefers not to have competition and likes being automatic first pick, in which case his options will be to leave, hence Rafa making enquiries recently for a new No2.

I can see Dude & Carson both leaving in the summer, with a new younger No2 coming in.

Carson won't be coming back, IMO.
Reina's our number 1 and Padelli will probably be number 2, replacing the departing Dude.
