    Defence

I am a bit worried that (god forbid) we suffer a few injuries/suspensions to the GK and Defence we might have to field the same back 5 we did last night. Hyypia apart, they were poor and they were up against a fairly poor Arsenal side. I shudder to think what would happen if it was their first choice team up against us.

Maybe getting in Ayala isn't such a bad idea after all!

We do need someone like Neill to come in. Someone that can paly in more than one position.
it also worries me that Riise is the best LB we have, lets hope theat Warnock gets better within a game or two.

I do like Warnock, but agree he is just not good enough to be a regular for us, his defensive awarness can be suspect at best, though his usual crunching tackle is always amusing.

It is painfully obvious that Neil, (like him or loath him) would have made a huge difference for us last night ( how sad does that sound)

I just hope that last night doesn't see the end of Peltier. I do like the look of the lad and hope he does learn from last night.

He needs to be loaned out to gain experience. It is the only way for young defenders. Finnan is clearly first choice but should we bring in Neill we would no longer need Pletier as cover and if it came to it we should pay his wages while he is away to get him some games - preferably at least at championship level, but I think West Ham need a right back.

agreed, as you mentioned last night it maybe worth sending our kids out to a high flying championship side rather than a relegation haunted EPL team. Maybe Brum/Derby etc? Lupoli and Bentender seem to have come on leaps and bounds their.

The move of loaning several players to a good Championship team by Arsenal seems like a great one to me. I guess you have to time it right though as Brum needed to rebuild and so the players would get games. I guess that happens to all relegated sides to some extent or another, so there should always be an opportunity there.

Carson did quite well at Sheff Weds last year. Players like Hobbs, Anderson, Antwi, Guthrie, Peltier and even Palletta should be given that loan experience, rather than idling in the ressies and then being thrown into an odd match here and there.

I always worry about the lack of height and airial ability in the defence when ever Hyypia isn't playing. Rafa has only bought Palleta and Agger and none of them are exactly towering like Hyypia.

Last season our defence was so successful because Sami went up for the headers and Carra sweeped up behind him, that is exactly the same as Terry and Carvaliho at Chelsea.

In short i think we need to buy a defender with height and airial ability because come the end of the season Sami will have his chips.

I think Sami will need to be kept on given how poor the replacements look at the moment (I accept that they should/hope/may improve with time etc) I agree with you another CB will need to brought in, who that is is anyones guess. Neil? Ayala? Campbell?

The trouble with them three are one will have to prove that he can cut it at this level and the others are aging and would only be short term replacements.

There's not that much out there at the moment, look at the problems the Chavs are having in recruiting.

I really do wish we'd got someone like Gallas, top player and the very top of the game, offers pace aggression, goals and versitility.
