No we don't know. You have speculated, but he is injured and we haven't got the money. If we buy a striker in the summer with the DIC its highly likely to be a international striker of some standing a la Villa and not Darren Bent.

I can't re-iterate enough how much better Darren Bent would be in the prem than David Villa. How come he can score so many goals in a shambolic Charlton side?

I've seen Alves play close to half a dozen times and if there's one negative, it's the diving.

You could have a point about Bent and Villa. In reality none of us have a clue who'd be a hit and who'd be a flop. They're both good players, but it's terribly tricky to weigh either up in terms of being an LFC number 9, so to speak.

It's hard to evaluate Bent's quality. To me it's a similar position to Saha going to United. Many people doubted Saha could make a go of it - from scoring goals for a small Premiership club to a giant - but, eventually, he has. Emphatically. We'd be taking a chance with Bent but he could feasibly slot straight in and amongst the goals.

Villa could quite easily prove to be another Morientes/Shevchenko, but that's by no means a given.

Personally I'd just have to trust the gaffer - they'd both represent risks. I can't think of any strikers in world football who wouldn't.
