A lots of ifs and buts for me last night:
IF the linesman had flagged for their offside goal instead of ours (which was about the same distance offside) then its 5-4
IF the ref had given us a penalty when Bellamy was pushed in the box then it could have been 5-5
IF the referee had not given that stupid free kick for Baptista's goal then it could have been 5-4 to us
IF the ref had given us a free kick when Guthrie was bundled over and then gave a corner which in turn produced goal number 3(or was it 4) then it could have been 5-3 to us
IF Aluminia had been our reserve keeper and Dudek theirs then we could be in two cups still
Now I know all of this is a bit extreme but there were factors last night that did not help. I thought that the refereeing performance was as poor as I have seen for some time and he did not help one bit. Added to that, given the news of our injuries, then are we sure that we wanted to play a full team last night for something that is still bottom of our priorities?
I think there has been such an overreaction about last night its nonsensical. I hear "Arsenal reserves turn Liverpool over" then the next sentence is how wrong Rafa was to play that side. Well they either beat a strong Liverpool team or they didn't??? I for one am not bothered as I am still convinced that there are better things around the corner. I also believe that we saw the beginning of the end of some players as Liverpool players last night.
