I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
    Mine angry and defrauded young?

Curbishley really should know better but it's the first time he's ever had real money to spend and that doesn't suit alot of managers who've always worked well on a tiny budget. Spending silly money and possibly getting relegated would spell absolute disaster for West Ham.

Check out the hammers' final 7 games of the season. If they're not well out of the relegation zone by then, they're f*cked.

doesnt get much tougher than that. i cannot believe this signing, west ham are continuing their bizarre self destruction that started with the signings of tevez and mascherano

maybe if ice ham (i like that) played their best team from the start they wouldnt have these problems. theyve lost all momentum from last season and its becuase theyve ****ed their players around big time

Young waiting for Arsenal or Liverpool

The highly-rated winger has rejected a move to West Ham United after the Hornets reluctantly accepted a bid of £9.6million for the player, and the Hammers aren’t the only ones interested.

Arsenal, Aston Villa, Everton, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have also been credited with an interest in the England Under-21 international, yet it is believed he sees his future at the Emirates Stadium or Anfield.

"Ashley is an ambitious player, but until there is something positive for him, Watford and any interested club then nothing can happen and Ashley is only concentrating on his football," agent Ricky Hill told Sky Sports.

Whether Arsene Wenger or Rafael Benitez will make an official move in January remains to be seen, although both could leave it until the end of the season.

I'd happily pay Watford £3m and Pennant though...

(Which is more a reflection of what I value Pennant to what I value Young!)

Maybe his agent has suggested he "hold on in there" due to a CL team possibly coming in during the summer, as rumoured?

Aston Villa agree deal for Young

The offer for Young is reported to be worth £8m
Watford have accepted a bid from Aston Villa for striker Ashley Young.
"Manager Martin O'Neill has been given permission to speak to the England Under-21 star," said a statement on the Villa website.

The in-demand 21-year-old turned down a move to West Ham earlier this week after Watford accepted a £9.65m bid from the Upton Park side.

Villa are thought to have offered an initial £8m for Young, who scored 15 goals for the Hornets last season.

Tottenham were also thought to have been in the hunt for Young and were reported to be ready to offer cash plus Wayne Routledge and Calum Davenport.

Davenport has now joined West Ham on a permanent deal.

Villa boss O'Neill has been keen to boost his attacking options, with Juan Pablo Angel and Milan Baros out of form and Chris Sutton injured.

Villa's £8m Young bid accepted but Spurs still in frame
                        By Jason Burt
                        Published: 19 January 2007

Watford last night accepted a bid from Aston Villa believed to be an initial £8 million for striker Ashley Young. The 21-year-old has been given permission to talk to Martin O'Neill, whose Villa side host the Hornets tomorrow.

However, the England Under-21 international is believed to have set his heart on signing for Tottenham Hotspur, and Spurs may agree to Watford's request that he is allowed to remain with them until the end of the season. Although Spurs have not offered anywhere near the £9.65m package outlined by West Ham, they are confident the player wants to join them ahead of any other club.

Watford had hoped to secure a player-plus-cash deal from Spurs for Young with £3m plus either Wayne Routledge or Calum Davenport or both moving to Vicarage Road. The two players were not keen, however. Davenport has since signed for West Ham while Routledge wants a permanent move to Fulham where he is on loan or another established Premiership team.

Arsenal and Liverpool have also expressed interest in Young. Five bids of £5m were lodged but Watford wanted more. Eventually West Ham offered £8m in cash plus an additional £1.65m based on appearances and staying in the Premiership. They were astonished when Young turned down their offer.

why would Villa be buying him. They have Gab Agbonlahor, who IMO is equally as impressive as Young.

Maybe we are in for him, so Villa are replacing him with like-for-like? Or maybe I need more medication!
