Tbh I didn't think it was total horse**** at all

Rafa has no influence in the academy, it's just those who do have influence like Moores and Parry will listen to him. Doesn't mean he can wander down and tell Heighway to do this that and the other. It would be up to Heighway. He can only lean and Moores/Parry etc and hope they tell Heighway to do certain things. Which is probably why Rafa has pushed to get players from the academy to train at Melwood as early as possible - so he has control over their training and development.

thats a contradiction in terms mate

have a read of lecters post for a sensible list of some of the many ways in which rafa has been "involved" in the academy.

It isn't a contradiction at all. Rafa had no authority over Heighway, that's the bottom line.

I agree with Lecter's point that 'Heighway is the Director of the Academy thats his domain hes done it without interference from the first team coach for many years.'

Rafa has not had influence in the academy. He couldn't turn up there and say, actually Steve I want the lads to do this today... I think you just called it 'total horse****' to let us all know about your God-complex, didn't you Mr Surgeon?

Anyway we're rapidly going off on a tangent so I'll just leave you to enjoy your pineapple. Sorry, I mean your Jason Lee.

perhaps mr pacman might wish to take note that the academy side contains a large number of young players "scouted" from a long way further afield than "local"

the academy is for the production of 1st team players for lfc

              end of.
I think it would be valid if the academy brought through young players who played a couple of games and got sold for decent money. I do however there does have to be an improvement in terms of bringing through players who have careers in the top couple of divisions for the money invested to be really worth spending.

Another question is how come teams like Middlesboro and Aston Villa can have a lot of half decent young players who can play in the PL to a reasonable level when we don't? Is this just that the fact we are a better team means that they don't get games and then do not develop? If so surely we need to put in place a system where they get games.

On the question raised by Pacman, there is a loan limit but with the creative use of buy back clauses etc. I suspect we can get round it. Also Arsenal have loaned three players to Brum (who also have players from other clubs on loan), so loans on the scale of five players or so are probably possible and about the right blend in terms of players integrating with older professionals.

14 clubs over 12 years, an average of 1 club every 10 months, maybe he mistook Testimonials Granted at 10 months instead of 10 years?

If this is true I am happy Heighway has gone. Legend yes, brilliant to watch.

However, we have the most update modern facility in Melwood and it is probably the most unproductive Academy in the League

rafa exerts a MAJOR influence over the academy THATS the bottom line here

there are many and various ways to influence the academy other than your example - thats why your posts ARE contradictions

Could we not just increase the number of kids in the academy to satisfy both sides. Why does it have to be one or the other?

ps and let Rafa run the whole show.

                            Sense of humour failure?

I don't really like turnips but that's ok, you probably don't like Jason Lees

Anyway come on, spill the goss, when will Elias take over and will he run the academy with the same high level of autonomy Heighway did?

Again is local recruitment Heighways policy or the boards?

Heighway is the Director of the Academy thats his domain hes done it without interference from the first team coach for many years

He's basically had carte blanche to do what he wants hence the local recruitment policy

Theres scouts and local coaches who believe no matter how good a coach / Director Heighway is we are missing out on some great prospects because of his policies

Football is moving quickly Heighways ideals are for a bygone age

Heighway will always be one of my Favourite players. But He's failed at the Acadeny. That doesnt change my memories of him though. Same goes for Souness
