Our inability to nurture talent through or in the academy.
Our ineptitude in getting the very best out of players.

If anyone thinks more money is directly proportionate to success then i'm afraid they're very ignorant.

By coaching I mean we rarely improve players. A lot of players seem to tread water or go backwards when they sign for LFC. We lack the basic skills generally, passing springs to mind, long, short and crossing.
Set pieces tend to be bloody farce at LFC. In defence we look vulnerable at set-pieces and corners/free kicks are often wasted.
Some of the players seem to go missing against the more physical teams in the premiership.
Good post, particularly the bold points.

I can't believe how shockingly bad our corners are.

Bob, which players were you thinking of who are treading water/going backwards?

BTW Who else suspects that Ladyman is really Speedy in disguise.

What I meant was, recently, when we've signed players who aren't the finished article, the seem to go into a comfort zone and never really reach their "potential".

Outside of locals, I can't think of one where we have done well, and only ever got a mill or two in return for all the work put in for the others, maybe we are identifying the wrong kind of young player, rather than the system we have, reading that back is depressing actually, is it our system or our scouts?

It could be something to do with the scouts but then the manager has the final say-so on signing these players. I think our coaching needs looking at, however, that changed with the new management so may be it is more deep rooted than just the coaching.
I think one factor is the strength, or lack of, of our 1st team squad. Back in the day, when you signed for LFC, you had to be prepared for a good season or so in the reserves. Players had to fight to earn a 1st team place, now a lot of the new signings get thrown straight in whether they're settled and in form or not.

How often do we sign players who don't really cut it, and then ship them out for less than half of what we paid for them. That irritates the life outta me.

Too often. Maybe it's the mindset of the players we sign and they think they've made it once they sign on the dotted line.
As I said above, in the past most new players didn't break into the 1st team squad until they were absolutely bang in form and flying in the reserves. These days our weak 1st team squad allows them to go straight in when they might not be in form or settled.
