Media vs Common Sense

A call for all fans. Don't put too much sway in what the media say about the defeat on Tuesday. It is only the Carling Cup after all. Like it or not, its the least coveted of all cups. We used it to blood some young players. Granted, it was discovered that our youth was a class below that of Arsenal, but how else is rafa supposed to find out how good his young backup really is? They might be fine in training, but their true quality does not become apparent until they are under the floodlights at Anfield in front of 45,000 scousers. We're out of the domestic cups. So fcking what? We cant win them every year! Its the nature of cup competitions. Last night, Wycombe drew with Chelsea 1-1... nuff said.

We all watched the CC match on Sky. Sky, with Andy Grey at the commentary helm, will always over-sensationalise matters way beyond their actual gravity. Grey, being a blue****e at heart, will further over-sensationalise matters when Liverpool are involved. He could not hide the delight in his voice at the scoreline and milked it for all it was worth. The rest of the media feeds off that sensationalism and common sense disappears into the ether. Common sense does not sell tabloid newspapers, nor does it make for big headlines.

This club is moving in the right direction. Our record against the top three is a concern, but we are absent a few top class players which those other teams can buy at will. The takeover, should it come to pass, should rectify this to an extent, and I expect that the combination of our spirit combined with better financial resources will lead us, in time, to the promised land. I for one, want Rafa to lead us there. He is a class act. Knee-jerkers calling for his head will always be around after a defeat such as that in the CC. Its only natural, if not incredibly short-sighted bordering on the ridiculous.

The media lies to you every single day. Its their purpose to create sensation. Dont ever forget that.

I agree that this whole thing has been blown out of proportion a long way. 2 defeats and shoddy games defensively and to some people we are all of a sudden the worst team the planet has ever seen ffs.

Yet they forget in large (most) parts of both games we dominated and controlled.

We aren't the first and won't be the last team to have a couple of stinkers.

It was 3 games ago that we were being praised for a superb demolition of Bolton a team who you rarely see torn apart the way we did.

Some common sense needs to prevail, then again, common sense isn't too common is it?

Indeed, over our last 10 league games we have scored 19 and let in 1. Not the form of a team in crisis. There are lessons to be learnt from the last week, but I doubt Rafa was unaware of the issues anyway.

That has happened a lot this season.

We battered Everton, they had virtually none of the ball. We did all the attacking, but just couldn't put the ball the the back of the net. They hit us on the break and got lucky, albeit three times.

We battered Chelsea, they too had virtually none of the ball. We did all the attacking, and should have been 3-0 up at half time. Drogba scored one (admittedly) excellent goal.

We are seeing this time after time. A lack of clinical bite up front coupled with a leaky defence. We have now got the hang of holding and passing the ball and can control long periods of the game home and away, starving the opposition of possession. We're just failing to make it count and then they only have to get lucky once and we get punished.
