    Aurelio (v Riise)

So what do people make of him now?

He's needed a 'settling in' period, to which he was perfectly entitled, and he gradually seems to have found his feet. In pure, technical terms he is a FAR better footballer than the hugely limited Riise will ever be.

Unlike the agricultural, hoof-merchant JAR, he has vision and a range of passing, crosses consistently well and is tougher than many people give him credit for. His biggest weakness would appear to be a lack of concentration - he can be careless and get sucked out of position, but as things stand he's got to be our first choice left-back/wing back.

Our ball retention was much better today and that IMO was due in no small part to having Aurelio there instead of Riise who, time and time again, hoofs forward the most ugly, hopeful balls.

Thoughts? I'm sure there'll be some who vehemently disagree. Let battle commence!

He just seems pretty ineffective to me. At least Riise poses a true goal threat. Aurelio just doesnt DO anything, from what i've seen.

Neither are good enough defensively - simple as. We need to sign a left back who can defend first and foremost.

You not see today's game mate? His passing was excellent, and was instrumental in the third goal.

Riise will go in the summer I think. Aurelio is no left back and will be a squad player. I agree with DJS as Aurelio does pose little threat but Riise has gone seriously off the boil.

But to me Aurelio isn't a left back - he's a genuine wing-back, and when we switch our formation to one like today's, he's the natural option.

                Hmmm......yeeeah....buuuut....

It happens once in about 15 games and we wont get to play Watford next season, so what's the point?

He just doesnt deliver enough for me, and even less against good opposition. Not really complaining, because he was a freebie, but i dont really rate him as anything TBH.

I agree 100% Shaggy mate. Was saying that weeks and weeks ago. Aurelio is a very good player and for me should be our first choice left back, with Riise being backup.

Aurelio is a footballer, Riise an athlete and an SMS monster.

I knew someone would say that. As I said "first and foremost" - a player can still defend and push on - Finnan has developed into that role.

Christ, how's not rating a player 'doom mongering' ?

Do you think every one of our players is Pele or something?
