    Barry

Following Diego’s mention of Gareth Barry in the Barton thread.

Is Barry somebody you would have liked, or like, Liverpool to sign? (As a left back)

I for one would! He as always struck me as a very good and much underrated player.

However given the lack of interest from the big sides, there must be a problem with his game…

Anybody like to venture an opinion?

It could be because he has been moved into midfield quite often, where he isn’t able to shine quite so much…..

He's always struck me as over rated porker who wouldn't be talked about at all if he was right footed. Just goes to show that it's a game of opinions

i agree, i've seen him quite a bit and i have always been impressed with him, and he would be great for us at left back, and a good midfield cover...

Always liked Barry. Not sure he's good enough for us but he's a very good player.

another player who is decent but destined to wallow in mid-table mediocrity with villa.

Solid player who was seemingly lacking in motivation a little before O'Neill arrived.
Would I like him in the team?
                  Yes.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

                  * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

With all due respect, why do you think he's not good enough for us. He is a quality player with great potential, both football and leadership-wise. I Don't really understand why people have this idea that Barton and Barry are not good enough for Liverpool. I think they would be very valuable additions to the squad. Is Riise better than Barry? Garcia? Hardly

But before O'Neil came in he was awful for close to 3 years, its only recently his form has got better

Some players respond to good management, both on & off the field.

Not good enough. Like Barton, he's a level two player. If he left Villa he'd go to the likes of Everton, Newcastle, Middlesbrough etc. None of the big boys would have him

Although thought Barry as a good player - but he's similar to Riise in that he's woefully one footed and probably prone to the same hair-tearing attempts at using his left foot at all costs.

He's English, so he'll be relatively too expensive.
