Those that finish bottom of the PL in 2007/2008 will also receive £30M under the new packages just been negotiated.

Winners will now get £50M, so prob £1M per place.

Now the reason for billionaires buying PL clubs is becoming clearer.

Makes the playoff place from The Championship more of an interesting one-off match this season! The rewards are astronomical in comparison to losing and remaining in The Championship!

So that's an extra £20M for the suits next year, on top of CL money, on top of what DIC may offer, interesting times indeed.

Premiership clubs to cash in on £900m television windfall

The prize-money for being crowned Barclays Premiership champions next season will rise by almost £20 million, to a staggering £50 million after a new global television deal was agreed yesterday. The 20 Premiership clubs will share a jackpot of £900 million each year for the next three years.

The increased revenue comes after the FA Premier League administrators, led by Richard Scudamore, the chief executive, negotiated a new overseas television and media rights package to start for the 2007-08 season worth £625 million. This is double their previous arrangement.

All that is in addition to the £1.7 billion domestic deal agreed last May with Sky TV and Setanta, the Irish cable and satellite broadcast company. With another £400 million coming from internet and mobile phone rights, the full home and overseas package is worth a cool £2.7 billion.

The Premiership champions will pick up £50 million in prizemoney next season. In claiming their second successive title last season, Chelsea were awarded £30.4 million, which is how much the team who finish sixteenth will be able to claim next season. Finishing bottom will be worth nearly £27 million — Sunderland got less than £17 million when they went down in 2006, while Italy received only £10.9 million when they won the World Cup last summer. This new cash boost is made up of a merit payment and television revenue.

“This deal really does take us into another level,” Scudamore said. “Big clubs in other major footballing nations such as Real Madrid might negotiate big deals for themselves, but this deal is to be shared across the board by all our teams.”

The new overseas deal underlines the Premiership’s claim to be the most popular football league in the world. The Premier League has finalised deals with foreign broadcasters in 81 blocs covering 208 countries.

“We have seen huge growth everywhere, but the really big jumps have been in Asia and the Middle East,” Scudamore said. “No territories have gone down, but in some the rights have been sold for three or four times the current amount.”

It is all good news for the clubs who can remain among the elite echelon of the English game, but for those striving to join from below, the challenge will become harder as the financial gulf becomes wider.
