    Babbel set to retire.

Stuttgart defender Markus Babbel says he is likely to retire at the end of the season.

The 34-year-old former Bayern Munich and Liverpool star told Bild that he was set to hang up his boots in the summer after failing to gain regular first-team football with the Swabians this season.

Babbel, who won 51 caps for Germany and was part of his country's triumphant Euro 96 squad, has only made two appearances in coach Armin Veh's team this term.

"The way things are looking at the moment I'll be stopping at the end of the season," Babel told Bild.

"I have always been a leading player and that would appear not to be the case anymore."

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Such a great player - real real shame about his illness - could have been a major player for us.

Awesome player. Remember against Soton, he was injured but all the subs had been used. He stayed on and scored the winner. We always won when Babbel scored!

Seriously one of the best players we've had in the last 20 years.

He should make a phone call to Beckham, i am sure he could have a couple of years out there.

This guy was awesome, struck with the bad luck stick unfortunately.

I dont think I've ever seen a right back play as well as Babbel during the treble season.

One in three people never return to full health from the illness he suffered from. Nice fella by all accounts too.

Babbel was awesome, loved him in the 2000/2001 season.
I think it's a foul, and if the ref gives it. He got to give a penalty. I know it's outside the box, but you see them given that close to the area. So if the ref gives it he's got to give the penalty as it so close to the area. But I think it's a penalty. Robbie Savage 8/11/06

Are you watching Manchester United? Are you watching Chelsea? This is Liverpool F.C taking over the bloody world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He was an immense player. Such a shame he was struck down when he was.

He could have gone on to be an absolute legend.
