    Older Players in Britain

As there is talk of Ayala coming to Anfield i have been thinking.

In England we tend to look at players of his age being past it. Yet in Spain and Italy they tend be seen as good buys. Top clubs go for older players

Now I understand our game is quicker and more physical but as I have to grudingly admit Larson will do well at the scum and to me this proves that if you are good enough you are good enough.

Sherringham also proved that age wasnt a great disadvantage again with the scum and other places he has been to.

If you get one good season out of them its ok isnt it? and the knowledge that they can pass on to youngsters must be invaluable

    gary Mac anyone?

Which is why we should have done everything possible to keep Didi, an old wise head in the middle of the park is invaluable when all around are losing theirs.

I agree to a large extent, but obviously there has to a balance within the team/squad with younger players.

At the moment there are several players available, Ayala, FatRonnie, Raul, who some seem to think are too old.

I personally don't think age is the problem, it depends on how they are used in the squad.Ronaldo for example, if properly motivated could be fantastic in the Prem, but I doubt he could play week in week out.
Previous injuries and the faster pace of the Premiership would limit his playing time.

i know what you mean i meant more in general. I just think that older players seem to generate more interest from clubs in Italy and Spain its seen as desperate here. I think its a mixture of pace and power of our league and the view that its jonny foreigner coming over to fill there boots for one last pay day?
