Gerard doesn't perform against the big 3

Who was it that said that 2 weeks ago????????? Let me think........

Stevie bossed the game against world class Lampard and Bollock (sp?)

Is it just me or did anyone else think it was a bit easy today? I left the ground thinking "another home 3 points" rather than we beat the champions.

Well done to Aurelio for his all round game, Riise for showing up for a change this season and Pennant for a great goal that will do wonders for his confidence.

    5 goals (target 15)

    3 assists also........

i think the feeling of just another 3 points is due to the fact they didnt have a full strenght defense and we know they will use that as an excuse.

to a certain extent it is true but thats football we have lost matches when some players havent been available but we just get on with it. also we havent spent what they have

the other thing is its good that it just feels like another 3 points. they are only chelsea. any team we beat should feel like that

Excellent post - I was going to post something similar about Gerrard but you beat me to it. I have to say Alonso and Gerrard were a really impressive combination in the middle today. Lets hope they can keep this form up.

To be fair - Lampturd was anonymous, Ballack strolled around not looking remotely interested and Mikel sat too deep to have any impact.

            The question then is why.

Personally I think it lays the argument to rest once and for all. It was a "big game", Gerrard did not "go missing" and their midfield was entirely dominated by ours.

It was a stupid argument anyway - incorrect in fact (although the terms were suitably vague to allow lots of pedantic arguing) and mistaken in conception.
            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Yes, but we have to put this into context. SG HAS been anonymous in some big Prem league geames. Yesterday he was OK. But that wasn't Chelsea's 1st choice 11. When he does it against the likes of Terry with Essien and Makelele in CM, then I'll hold my hands up. But he has to do it consistently against the "Big 3"

Do what exactly? It was thier first choice central pairing yesterday, Ok Makalele didnt play but Stevie wasn't playing that advanced yesterday anyway, what he did do is restrict Ballack and Lampard's influence on the game. Essien has played all over the park this season and JT has **** all to do with Central Midfield, I would perhaps like to see Kuyt perform like that with JT playing but Terry is irrelevant to Gerrard.

Spot on. Against the bigger teams, he tends to do the more grimey work that gets unnoticed like breaking down attacks and tackling. Obviously he's gonna get less of an opportunity to attack against the bigger teams.
