when going for Riise's rebound I thought he was well fouled by essien... Nothing to do with this thread, just been reading the papers and no-one seems to mention it....shock

It was a clear pen. Essien made no attempt to get anywhere near the ball and just took Crouch out. Should/could've been five yesterday.

Don't make me laugh. Look at Bellamy's goal stats before you start about winning / losing arguements. Bellamy is NOT a top goalscorer - he never has been, wherever he's played. The facts show this. He's had 1 good season in the Prem last season at Blackburn and now he's back to 1 goal every 3 games or so. So don't try and tell me any different. Add the other shortcomings he has a player, and it all adds up to him not being good enough for LFC. Maybe for other clubs (Norwich, Celtic, Blackburn etc.) but not for mine. There's a huge difference in class beteen being good enough for LFC and good enough for some 2nd rate outfit.

what shortcomings are they? he is a good finisher, he has pace, he has skill, he has desire, he has passion.

Newcastle were challenging for the title when he was there, and he was one of there best players, did you only just start watching the league last season? your a gob****e mate....accept it.

Yeah i thought so too but at the time i was nearly falling down the stairs of the centenary celebrating Riise's "goal"

Crouch may not exactly be the best striker out there but he works his socks off in every game and scores goals. He also gives Rafa another option that he can use. Just look at Koller for example. He wasn't much to a footballer before he was 27-28 years old. It takes longer time for a striker like Crouch to reach his peak than it does for a more skillful player.

Rafa will only sell him if he thinks another striker would give him a better option IMO.

As I see it he is a valuable member of the squad now but hopefully Rafa will improve the team so much that Crouch will eventually be less relied upon or simply never make the team and be sold. Possibly in 2-4 years.

We would though have to find someone who can do his job better then he does.

Ok Elrobbie and Kopite_colin a question, who in your vast managerial experience would you have signed with the £25m approx that Rafa has spent on Bellars, Kuyt, Crouch and Robbie? and if you keep Kuyt youve only got £13 million to spend on 3 players so intelligent suggestions (if possible) please.

OK with a Transfer budget of 25 mill for this year (you would have to add £7m for Crouch from last year's budget, as he ws bought last year) = £32m

With what money we had on the table and on the books I would have done the following:

Bought RVN for £10m when available, or Owen for £16m
Bought Kuyt for £10m
Kept Cisse
Played Garcia as 4th striker
Added a cheaper younger striker to the books, or gone for a proven goalscorer such as Klose with a reasonable buy-out clause (which would be less than £12m)

that's reasonable. And far more consistent goals potential than we currently have in the squad.

And like I said in another thread, why sell him? He provides an option against some of the teams who are harder to break down. By all means sign another striker in place of Robbie at the end of the season, but whats to be gained by selling Crouch?

I didn't say sell him to be fair, he can rot in the reserves for me. That wasn't my point, just saying we need better to win the title.
