OK I'll explain myself. If he has that amount of skill them he wouldn't need to play on the shoulder of the last man and continually get caught offside, as he would be able to stay a little deeper and then beat the man with his skill rather than just for pace.

All in all Bellamy does not offer us anything over Cisse imho, other than he was more experienced in the Premier League.

It's not even worth arguing. Bellamy is about 3 goals off Cisse's tally for last season already, and that isn't even taking into consideration his overall contribution (which has been excellent).

I like Kuyt too. It's the others I think aren't up to it, if we want to get back to the top. Realistically, Bellamy, Crouch and Fowler are not top strikers. You can probably only get away with ahving a max of 3 TOP strikers in a squad these days, befor ethey start moaning about rotation, so the 4th is usually of the Bellamy / Crouch ilk. But that's all they're good enough for me, if anything - 4th spot. We need another 2 top goalscoring strikers in my book.

No not as a DECENT striker - because his finshing, effort and work-rate go some way to making up for that. But he may never be a TOP striker in the English Premier League due to his lack of pace. Let it also be said that Kuyt ISN'T slow, he's just not Henry. I believe Kuyt is still settling in and his strike rate is the best of all 4 strikers in the league, wher it matters. If we get 1 or 2 top class goalscorers in, you will see the best of Kuyt becuase the pressure will be off his shoulders somewhat. You can get away with one striker who's not too quick, but a whole strike force of them is horribly exposed. Bellamy is the only one with genuine pace, but he is not a clinical enough goalscorer, get's caught offside too often, whinges too much, has a history of problems and dodgy knees (all in all -not good enough for LFC imho).


That's why we need 2-3 more very good / top strikers (goalscorers).

Don't make me laugh. Look at Bellamy's goal stats before you start about winning / losing arguements. Bellamy is NOT a top goalscorer - he never has been, wherever he's played. The facts show this. He's had 1 good season in the Prem last season at Blackburn and now he's back to 1 goal every 3 games or so. So don't try and tell me any different. Add the other shortcomings he has a player, and it all adds up to him not being good enough for LFC. Maybe for other clubs (Norwich, Celtic, Blackburn etc.) but not for mine. There's a huge difference in class beteen being good enough for LFC and good enough for some 2nd rate outfit.

OK with a Transfer budget of 25 mill for this year (you would have to add £7m for Crouch from last year's budget, as he ws bought last year) = £32m

With what money we had on the table and on the books I would have done the following:

Bought RVN for £10m when available, or Owen for £16m
Bought Kuyt for £10m
Kept Cisse
Played Garcia as 4th striker
Added a cheaper younger striker to the books, or gone for a proven goalscorer such as Klose with a reasonable buy-out clause (which would be less than £12m)

that's reasonable. And far more consistent goals potential than we currently have in the squad.

And tell me why RVN would have choose us over Real Madrid

If anyone actually believes United would've done business with us over RvN then they are dreaming.

Fair enough point Shaggy, but the discussion was about who (alternatively) we could have gone for had we not spent what we have on the likes of Crouch and Bellamy (and Kuyt if people don't think he's good enough: FWIW I do). But there were better goalscorers out there for what we spent, and like it or not, until recently our strikeforce has costs us a real shot at the title this year.

He's still our top scorer, and the 6th top scorer in all competitions. If you take away penalties he is third. I'm getting fed up with those that deride his value to the team. Yes we all know his heading is poor but he still offers much. I'd suggest those that berate him please answer why if he's so crap Rafa still picks him and he still scores goals.
