    Henry's head

Henry scored a great header today, especially for someone who is not noted for being a particularly good at heading the ball.

But it highlighted a key weakness with Peter Crouch. Why is it that Henry can direct a powerful header on goal from a standing position and beat a top keeper like Van Der Saar while the best Crouch can do is get headers like that on target, (usually pretty weakly and straight at the keeper)? In the last few matches he's played we've proabably seen more than half a dozen headers from Crouch whch have been weakly directed on goal, and even when he's had a run on the ball and attacked it he hasn't got anywhere near as much power in the header as Henry did today.

I think it negates a big part of our play and a key attribute that Crouch has. I mean hitting crosses into the box to exploit Crouch's height is a bit pointless if he can't get a reasonable header to trouble the keeper. It's cost us certain goals, and in the case of the Blackburn game, possibly 3 points.

It's such an obvious problem, and has been evident in Crouch since he arrived, so why has their been no improvement in his heading since he arrived?

I think that the harder a cross is whipped the easier it is for the player heading the ball.

crouch has scored goals with his head, henry has missed chances like that before, henry had a poor header before in the game, i guess they are both a bit hit and miss with their headers...

But the problem is I dont think I've ever seen Crouch get a header with as much power in it as Henry's today

You make a very good point.

If Crouch was as good with his head as he is with his feet we would not have gotten him for 7m when we did.

He would probably not be a Liverpool player at all.

Crouch not only lacks power in his headers but precision as well. I lost count how many times he headed a good chance straight to the keeper this season.

He did not put any power behind that.

The thing was he was moving fast forward when he connected with the ball.

As Fredo stated it was more about the pace of the cross. Yes, Crouchies headers are a little weak but he normally gets on the end of crosses with much less pace

Then why arent we whipping the ball in quicker if we can take for granted that with Crouch's height he'll get on the end of it?

he positions his body all wrong most of the time and then his technique from the neck up is incredibly poor. you can see it doesnt come naturally at all for him. if only he had sami's ability in the air, hed score 20 a season easily

This I completely agree with. question is can't he be coached into improving his technique?

                            Because IMO Fredo is wrong.

Most crosses have enough pace on them for Crouch to put plenty of pace on the ball. He just does not have the skill to do it.

And that is why I want Klose.
