I can understand it when people wanted rid of Diao because he was a terrible footballer, and the likes of Warnock who would arguably never make it at the highest level. But why would you want to get rid of a player who has scored so many important goals and arguably can cut it at the highest level. Sure he can be really frustrating but he provides the edge we sometimes need.

We aren't in the position where we need to sell to buy, so whats the logic in getting rid of players, Crouch falls into this category as well. Sure if they are deemed surplus to requirements then get rid, but they aren't so any suggestions about getting rid are ludicrous.

"At the moment there are no talks, but when Liverpool call we will answer them," Ibanez told skysports.com

"Xabi is very happy at Liverpool and he is enjoying playing there.

"The most important thing for Xabi at the minute is for him to concentrate on playing as he has a lot of important games coming up.

"When contract talks do come up he will be happy to talk to Liverpool about staying."
Thats great to read. i dont think iver ever heard an agent being so eager for his client to conduct talks. I take it he wad advised about Rafa's dislike of players who are all about money.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

How much do folk think Alonso is worth a week anyway.
          Personally, I wouldn't begrudge him 80k a week. The Jammy *******.

Interesting question, what do we think (or know ) Xabi is currently paid.

I remember at the time, and this could well be bull****, but Garcia is on around £40k - having got a large increase from moving from Barca, but where does that put Xabi? Obviously he came from a much smaller club, however he was an "in demand" player, maybe he was on something similar?

If he was/is on £40k, then I see no reason why he hasn't earned in increase!!! £50-55k should be his next contract.

            ( Lucas Neil £60k!!!!!!!)

Wit new billionaire owners, and other midfieders, most notably Gerrard getting 100k a week and more, i think it would only be fair to put him close to that braket, he is a class act after all.
