i think it boils down to rafa said u would have to fight for a place, where curbs probably as much as guaranteed him one.
Neil knows he would have been a valuable squad member, but thats it.
At West ham, he will be a first team regular.....as well as 40,000 a week richer!

But as i ahve just said in another post, we have to show players how much we want them sometimes too. Other teams will be breaking their backs to sign players, id just like to see us courting them a bit more.

Not really. Rafa has said many times he wants players who want to play for the club. He probably throws down a challenge to them, along the lines of, 'Join our squad and show us how good you are, make me play you every week' rather than 'here is X many thousand and you can play every week'. Id rather have the person who is wanting to fight.

I think that's that's a bit OTT. He's clearly not ****. I think some good teams might have not bothered for two reasons.....they didn't need him/other priorities & also they proabably thought he was 100% Anfield bound, so why bother.
