I understand what your saying about players must show they want to join us and be prepared to work etc.Originally posted by The Glove View PostNot really. Rafa has said many times he wants players who want to play for the club. He probably throws down a challenge to them, along the lines of, 'Join our squad and show us how good you are, make me play you every week' rather than 'here is X many thousand and you can play every week'. Id rather have the person who is wanting to fight.
But when your faced with a situation where there is another one or two big european heavyweight team, who are bending over backwards to convince this player to join, and doing their best to welcome him, it can influence things.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
* After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

just making a point about other potential targets though, i sometimes think the reception we give is not warm enough.Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:

I never liked the idea of Neill signing for us, I've always felt he didn't have the right character. Guess I was right.Originally posted by Pacman View PostParry also said that Rafa did speak to Neill.
He said he was sat in the office next to him at the time.
Neill is full of sh1t he didn't join Liverpool because of the money.
I'm so glad we didn't sign this clown.

Absolutely.
I think it was Roy Keane who was saying recently how shocked he was that the first question of every player he tried to sign was "What's the financial package like?"
Just when I discovered the meaning of life, they changed it

As it should be. When has Rafa guaranteed a starting place to anyone on a regular basis? Would we even want him to? Competition for places is healthy and Lucas Neill can pretend that it's not about the money, but no-one believes him, and as for not feeling 'wanted' - boo-hoo, isn't it time he grew up and began to act like a professional, it's not like he's some teenager with an inferiority complex. ****!Originally posted by The Glove View PostNot really. Must be the only Australian sportsman in the world who hasnt got huge confidence in his own ability if he thought he might not play every week for us and would have to prove himself worthy of a starting berth. Seems more likely he went for the extra cash. Boyhood Liverpool fan 'an all....what a greedy ****!!'Religion is killing each other over who has the best imaginary friend'

[QUOTE=RedMek;255880]"Because of the stature, history and ambition of Liverpool, there should be no need for us to sell the merits of this club." - Rick Parry
I have to say I think thats a stupid & arrogant statement by Parry. In other words any player who we want should automatically want to come to LFC. well i'm afraid thats bollox.AKA Heighway No9

He didn't say that, so the first premise of your post is therefore incorrect, which makes all of your post, well, err, bollox.
