    Barcelona Nou Camp Analytic

Nou Camp: Saw the Barca 3 - 1 Celta Vigo. Barca was dominating play, playing around with the opposition just outside Vigo's box with Iniesta and Deco controlling much of the play. Ronaldino went missing in many parts of the match, (although a few genius moments is all that will be required from him to deal in the killer blow). They could have been even more devastating if they have the finishing prowess of Eto'o. They were playing without several of their first-teamers like Eto'o, Belletti, Marquez, Thuram, Gudjohnsen and of course, the indomitable Lionel Messi. (Saviola although scoring the 1st of the match, was utterly ****e. Poor control, poor awareness of play made Cisse looked like the best player in the world. He also spurned several chances from 5 yards on many occasions). Giuly made an immediate impact on the right side cutting in, after coming on in the 2nd half and looked extremely dangerous. Riise/Aurelio would have had their work cut out for them. Apart from the given-away penalty by Oleguer's rash challenge, they were also defensively quite sound despite playing with a make-shift defense somewhat.

Barca's goalie literally gave away the direction he was going to dive before Vigo's Nene even got to the ball on the penalty spot. I was also not impressed with Victor Valdez's general qualities as a goalie. Pepe Reina is a much better goalkeeper anytime of the day.

Ex-red's solicitor Antonio Nunez came on for Celta Vigo midway in the 2nd half and was enterprising enough to attempt Vigo's best effort of the match with his snap-shot rebounded off Victor Valdez's post. One wondered why he was only brought on so late as he could have trouble Giovanni on the right flank all night.

My humble verdict: At home against better opposition (e.g. us) would put them in a precarious position as they would be pressurised by their own fans, consisting of mostly mature crowds with no patience for slack play by their own team. I feel Barcelona would perform much better playing away, even if it was at Anfield. It would illuminate their penetrating play and bring it to a much higher level (circa stamford bridge last year). So in conclusion, i feel the 1st leg at Nou Camp would be a good opportunity for us to sneak it past them; it is at Anfield that we should be worried about (e.g the Arses).

Thanks for this analysis mate. I do believe that this tie will be decided in the first match. If we can sneak a win it will give us a platform for the second leg.

Any score which will enable us to canvass the game in the return leg instead of going for broke will be a good result.

      Cheers for that Mersault.

We will have to be at our very best to beat Barca over two legs but I think we can do it.

Unlike Fredo, I believe a score draw or an away goal loss say 2-1 or 3-2 will set us up nicely for the return at Anfield. Barca will score at Anfield, of that I have no doubt. They're far too good on the break however I believe we can beat them at Anfield.

So, a score draw or a 1 goal loss at the Nou camp (with an away goal) and I think we can take them at Anfield.

I forgot to add that Momo's availability will be crucial in the Barca games. If he's back in time, which it looks as if he will be, then we will have an even better chance of getting past Barca.

Did you watch the game live or on TV?

I watched it on TV and Saviola looked very good Worked his socks off for the team and created a lot of space for the other players.

They have problem in defense that we must use. Van Bronkhorst is like Riise, leaves a lot of space behind him.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Read yesterday that Slyvinho is out for a month but Eto'o and Messi are on course to recover from their injuries, though not sure if it will be in time to be fully fit for us.
They are a class act and we will have to play 2 of the games of our lives to beat them.

Saviola did OK - his goal was down to poor defending - he will not win a header against Carra or Sami as he is rocketlike in height

Momo is key to this tie when we're away as they want to play everything through the middle

The 1st leg is only 3 weeks away if I'm not mistaken.

Seems like a short time-frame for a player who hasn't yet played any competitive football (as far as I know) since getting a long-term injury

                    Interesting about Valdez.
Ive ehard some say he is an average goal keeper. But majority of the time, when i watch him play, he seems a decent enough keeper.

'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

True, stranger things have happened. The only thing about whipping crosses into the box for crouch is though, at Camp Nou, Crouch will need to be quick to get up into their box to get the crosses, and it will be a tough job retaining possession high up the pitch there. Kuyt could very well be more appropriate for this with his extra pace.

I thought Barca were very average last night against a very poor Celta side. Untill Celta pushed for a late equaliser they found it extremely difficult to get at there defence and Barca's defence never looked comfortable with out the ball. With our much superior side to Celta's we can get at them.
