    Mannix signs for HamKam

HamKam is my local club, so this is happy days!

    The official HamKam site:

    http://www.hamkam.no/presentation/sh...il.asp?id=4374

    Translated:

Former Liverpool player David Mannix has signed for HamKam. The 21 year old was released from the english top club earlier in january and after a breif visit in Hamar it became clear that he wanted to play for HamKam.

The duration of the contract is set to the end of the norwegian 2009 season.

The midfielder has had a injury plagued history, but when he was released from Liverpool, he attracted several clubs including Burnley, Preston, Bristol City, Scunthorpe and Accrington Stanley.

The 21 year old played for Liverpool's U17 team at the young age of 13 and was compared with Steven Gerrard in many aspects. He impressed on the HamKam training ground during his stay and the fact that Mannix ended up signing for HamKam, is a huge boost for the club.

    From the supporter site:

    Translated:

The Liverpool player David Mannix has agreed terms with HamKam. He'll arrive in Hamar on Wednesday and on Thursday he'll join his new teammates for his first trainingsession.

David has signed a straight forward three year contract.

This is a great day for the club, and the signing is showing the true ambitions for HamKam.

    Background:

During his brief visit David Mannix showed qualities that could benefit HamKam.

David was impressed by the club, the managemant and the general setup at HamKam, but the personal conditions were a bit of a stumbling block when Mannix returned to England last friday. A medical was still completed and the parties seemed willing to close the gap and reach an agreement.

Scources originating from England suggested that a deal was likely to be completed, despite interest from other clubs.

The 21 year old is a central midfielder and has been regarded as a huge talent for years. A nasty knee injury put the young scouser's progress to a halt, but was earlier compared to Steven Gerrard.

Mannix has several youth international apperences, and has had a dominant role on the reserves team. His excellent passing, vision and tackling is said to be some of his outstanding skills.

Mannix contact with HamKam came through the local Hamar lad Allan Aasterud, which through his friendship with Liverpool scout Frank Sharps initiated the deal and later triggered Mannix interest for the city of Hamar and the club.

    ---------------------------------------------

I'll be watching the training on Thursday, so I'll post a few pics later on if anyone is bothered.

Welcome to Hamar and HamKam David Mannix!

Should be fun for the lad.

A bit like that Scottish bloke, Gary O’Connor, who moved from Hibs to Lokomotiv Moscow last summer. He’s desperate for a move back home as he “failed to settle”. Shock horror.

No disrespect to our Norwegian friends, of course, but I’d be prepared to bet Mannix doesn’t speak the language and will struggle to do so in any future attempts to learn it. Mannix will be playing for Runcorn in a few months.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

              I can't believe it really.

We were relegated last season, but are clear cut favourites for promotion.
We got a good set up here despite being a 'small' club.

If he keeps himself injury free, it could be a great way to spark his career again.

He'll play every competetive match for HamKam guaranteed.

The only downside is that I said I'd shave both my legs and appear in shorts on the first training if he signed. By the way it's 15 below zero Celcius over here now

                No, got relegated last year.

BUT the squad makes us favourites for the promotion. We had a really unlucky season last year. The only time we were in the relegation zone, was on the last day of the season. And we lost and all other results went against us....

                We will be back!

The language will be NO problem at all. English is our second language over here. Even scouse is widely understood.

I'm guessing, but I think that many/most Norwegian's speak great English.

They certainly did when I visited Oslo a few years ago.

                        Other selected quotes (from FXT.no)

                        John Neild (uncle and adviser):

I think this is a good move for David and a great addition to the HamKam squad.

He's 100% fit and training. The medical went well, as expected, but he's probably a couple of weeks behind the others in fitness.

We didn't know much about HamKam, so David decided to travel over to have a look and train. He was impressed with the club and he met up with Erlandsen (manager) and the other players and he really felt at home.

Erlandsen has explained the role ment for David and it suits David perfectly. HamKam wishes to get the ball down and play it and I think Erlandsen thinks of David as vital part of the team.

David is a special player, but this is not a step down. It's a step up bacause he will now be playing games week in and week out.

                        Arne Erlandsen (new HamKam manager):

Mannix has had some injuries, so it will be exciting to see how settles and devlopes further. He seems like a decent and humble lad and is willing to work hard to reach the highest level.

They do in Stavanger, where my brother lives and has done for about 4-5 years. I honestly don't think I've met a Norweigan that doesn't speak English.

Knowing some of the local birds over here, I guess some of them are planning to ambush him as soon as he walks off the plane.
