In addition, Hicks' company, Hicks, Muse, Tate, & Furst, Inc., is now Bush's number 4 career patron. The company is still donating to the GOP; Rick Perry has received $283,481 from Hicks Muse, with another $176,500 coming from Charles Tate [Hicks, Muse, Tate, & Furst, Inc.]. Hicks's brother Steven has also thrown in $138,516.

        REDS TAKEOVER MEETING REVEALED

The two American tycoons set to take over
Liverpool convinced chairman David Moores of
their plans at a secret meeting earlier this week.

George Gillett and Tom Hicks, who both own NHL
ice hockey teams, flew to England to present
Moores and chief executive Rick Parry with their provisional offer.

That meeting was enough for the Liverpool board
to turn down a rival offer from Dubai International Capital.

It is understood the decision by Hicks, who also
owns the Texas Rangers baseball team, to join
forces with Gillett convinced Liverpool their future lay in American hands.

Hicks has built up a reputation for developing
state-of-the-art new stadia for his teams.

The other issue which clinched the deal is the
Americans guaranteed that Liverpool's new stadium
on Stanley Park would not be on a groundshare
basis, which had been Gillett's original plan
when he was considering a solo takeover.

Hicks and Gillett will split the £470million cost
of taking over the club on a 50-50 basis, with
around £255million going to buy the shareholding
and take over the £80million debt, and a further £215million on the stadium.

The Americans have carried out due diligence and
are now preparing a formal offer which is
expected to be presented to the Liverpool board early next week.

If, as now seems certain, this takeover goes
through it will mean Liverpool, Manchester United
and Aston Villa are all in American hands.

Malcolm Glazer, owner of American football's
(NFL) Tampa Bay Buccaneers, owns United and Randy
Lerner, owner of NFL's Cleveland Browns, bought Aston Villa last year.

Gillett, who owns the NHL's Montreal Canadiens,
and Hicks, who owns the NHL's Dallas Stars, have
worked together in the past on the board of a major US meat-processing firm.

Their idea gathered force when they met at the
NHL All-Star Game last week. It would be the
first time that two owners of rival sports clubs
in one league have combined to purchase a club in another.

I'm not convinced that the yanks bring that kind of money with them and i am concerned we are going to have to continue to scrap around buying players like Pennant.
I share your concern. However, when DIC came out and said "We will not overpay for assets". I kinda got the impression that this would be a profit first deal and not the philanthropic deal we were lead to believe.

Still these are all suppositions. But I would say Worry not.

              Just saw this on YNWA:

STATEMENT FROM DUBAI INTERNATIONAL CAPITAL LLC
Dubai International Capital LLC ('DIC') today announces that it has decided to end negotiations with Liverpool FC & Athletic Grounds plc (“Liverpool”) about a possible investment in the club.
Having completed due diligence, DIC submitted a comprehensive offer to the Liverpool board. The offer had been accepted in principle by majority shareholder David Moores. It appears that the Liverpool board and the majority shareholder David Moores were unable to approve these terms in order to allow DIC to make a formal offer to all shareholders.
As part of this negotiation and at the request of the Liverpool board, DIC tabled detailed proposals regarding the financing, construction and delivery of the new stadium for the start of the 2009/10 season. In addition, DIC was also prepared to give assurances regarding funding for new players, at levels above what the club had previously budgeted for. However, despite providing all assurances that were requested of DIC, it appears that the Liverpool board was unable to recommend our proposed offer to the shareholders.

Well, Moores accepted, but the rest of the board said nay...and blocked the DIC takeover.
So if anyone is greedy, it appears to be the other members of the board.

I worry about how much money these 2 yanks have got and having spoke to somone who supports one of the teams this Hicks owns he has said he only cares that the books are balanced and doesn't care if the team doesn't win titles.

I would disagree with your friend. I have followed the Minnesota North Stars - Now the Dallas Stars, since they moved. The Dallas Stars enjoyed 4 years as a true force in the NHL, and won the Stanley Cup under Hicks ownership. He brought in alot of talent to accomplish this. Last few years were lean - but last year they were one of the best teams in the NHL. Unfortunately, they were ****e in the post season. NOw, as far as the Rangers go - I can't stand baseball so cannot give you any information on ow they are run.

Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

I have always been leaning towards Gillett though based on people over here (in the US) telling me about his business dealings.

Gillet is a marketing genius. He took over a poorly producing meat operation and discovered sales were low. He worked out it was due to the leanness of the meat. What did he do? Fatten them up nope. He put on his marketing hat and created a whole new market for lean health concious meat products. That company now owns that market segment. True marketing genius, what could he do with us.

The other thing often mentioned is his ability to generate additional revenue streams from existing assets. He doubled the income from their stadium by hosting non-sports events.

Both of these examples show that he HAS already done exactly what we need him to do. Market us and create more revenue.

This guy is a smart cookie and I for one am not concerned about their bid.

Only the people who thought the sheik would turn us into Goldophin fail to see this. The sheik was never going to do that. Hell DIC said they refuse to overpay for assets, that's a clear indication that this was a pure business decision so their bid was not better in that respect.

Relax boys and girls, whichever way it goes we'll be far stronger and far more able to compete than we have in the last 10+ years.
