Yeah i reckon so Dan, it seems too good an oportunity to raise funds to miss out on, although i do understand there is an arguement that keeping the traditional name will add value to the club aswell. I wouldn't be broken hearted if we got a sponsors name on the stadium. It will probably be Coca Cola or something.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

The US takeover of Liverpool Football Club is being hailed by the city council as a major step forward for the regeneration of the Anfield area.
American tycoons George Gillett and Tom Hicks agreed to make funds available to build the new stadium in Stanley Park as part of the deal.

The £215m project is expected to bring new community facilities, jobs, homes and business to Anfield and Breckfield.

Council leader Warren Bradley said it was "fantastic news" for the area.

"For too long the area has been in decline and I am hopeful that it is now full steam ahead for this amazing project which will give local people a much better life," said Mr Bradley.

"The club will get a brand new state-of-the-art stadium, Stanley Park will be restored to its former glory with new community facilities and the area will be completely regenerated with new homes and businesses."

Mr Bradley said he looked forward to meeting with the new owners to share the council's hopes and aspirations for the area.

Under the current proposals, the existing stadium will be redeveloped to become Anfield Plaza - a mix of shops, offices, homes, a hotel, and a new public open space.

The project is estimated to create 766 permanent jobs and 260 construction jobs, as well as boosting tourism numbers.

The new stadium is due to open at the start of the 2009/10 Premiership season.
The future you have, tomorrow, won't be the same future you had, yesterday.

Presumably we'll make a fair amount of money from this plaza (both developing and ongoing rental of the place?)

He did indeed say that. I remember because he said he will look at what could be done (within the current plans) to improve the 'fan experience'

Then again, they did complete due diligence in a mere three days, so Hicks will probably rattle off a little sketch of the new stadium tonight, and everything will be sorted in the morning.

This is one of the pics of the current design.

I would prefer to see the corners rounded off with seats instead of that nasty concrete pillar.

I would also like a third tier just at the kop end so its more of a focal point.

The millenuim stadium has a sort of "kop" type feel to it.

mainly because the north stand , was unable to be a 3 tier jobby like the rest of the stadium as it backs onto the Cardiff arms park where the blues play rugby.

i don't see why our new stadium couldn't be similar.

The only/main changes or influences we will see will be commercial - expect to see the following on the kop

                      "get your hot dogs/beverages"

                      Big foam hands on sale

And people in the kop waving these when someone it about to take a penalty

Hopefully they seats can be closer to the pitch though
Isn't there a rule now that the stands have to be a certain distance from the playing surface when a new stadium is built?
