im american and i know what its like to support liverpool from far far away. im hoping with american ownership liverpool will have more of a presence in the states. my initial conversion came in 1991 when i was 7. sunshine sports network in florida used to show shortened games and liverpool were on. my dad would tape anything and everything that was on so i could watch it over and over because i was footy mad and dying to watch it. so i watched pool v man city from 1991 about 600 times i reckon lol. my dad then got me a book about football and john barnes was on the cover and there were loads of stories about liverpool so i was hooked from then on. i could only follow the team on the internet, because tv coverage was a joke. espn used to show premier league games back in 1997, then fox had a highlights show, but most of the time i had to wait until the end of season videos to see the reds play.
so i know what its like being the only footy fan growing up, having friends that played but didnt watch it or love the game. no one having a ****ing clue who liverpool were or why i was always wearing their shirts. growing up the world cup was the only time i got to watch football, save for the odd random time they would show highlights from england or something. im venting now. but i hope with american ownership kids that love liverpool over here will get a chance to watch them and buy merch that doesnt cost so much, etc.
and yes all the stereotypes about americans are true.....but they dont apply to everyone
