heres a cracker my dad made up: whats 100 yards long and has one tooth? the front row at neyland stadium (my university football team is the biggest around, our stadium seats over 100,000 screaming rednecks)

There is an area in western Louisiana that we studied in genetics class - apparently has a gene pool about as deep as a puddle of tobacco-stained spittle. The family trees in that area are quite, um, linear. The geneticists had a field day studying the families there, because they would manifest abnormalities that would take several generations of inter-breeding to manifest (genotype vs phenotype).

I am really disgusted that I am going to start watching MLS now. Not all, but at least LA Galaxy. And possibly whatever team it was Zidane maybe signed for. I think US footy is ****. I keep hoping it will get better and worth watching. And the national team is **** as well. Last year when they played Real Madrid I was horrified. I knew it would be a joke to RM and it was. I do wish Atlanta would get a team going. Make it easier for me to get to matches. But I'll go see Beckham play and hope like hell he really makes a positive impact on the game. And with Zidane here...it's even better.

For that reason alone, it is worth your money to have Setanta sports, Gol TV and Fox Soccer channel. I do - and when I am not watching Liverpool, I can catch La Liga, Bundesliga, Eredivisie, and Serie A. The quality of matches in the League Championship are far superior to our own lowly MLS.

It is going to take an influx of quality coaches - be it Americans who go abroad to learn what is necessary or European coaches interested in a challenge - to start training our youth in proper technique and strategy.

i hear you mate, i think MLS and our national team are shocking. i find it impossible to support them because they dont play proper footy and field teams full of unlikable dickheads like chris albright who have no ability whatsover. how do we not have ANY latin players in our national team? theyre all rich white boys (im white by the way), because in the states you have to have money to play in tournaments and get noticed to get college scholarships to play in college and get picked for the national team. its ridiculous. and the ones that dont go that route, convey for example, is so overrated its incredible. its like at each level the coaches thought well hes made it this far might as well play him.

good call, those channels saved my life. i had to give them up because i couldnt afford them anymore, but thanks to fellow Reds ive been able to watch games online instead

i agree with what you say, growing up it wasnt unusual for me to know more about the game than my coaches, and thats just from watching it. with proper coaching theres no limit to the potential in the US, its there waiting to be cultivated. Liverpool's plan for US academies is brilliant

I am glad about that, I have not been able to see any of the press conference as I am currently in The Falklands.

My flight home has been brought forward by 5 days so I am now debating wether to tell the wife that despite not seeing her for 6 months and her flying back from Germany to see me in the UK for a week that I will be going to Barcelona for 2 days for the Champions league game.

I agree with this, certainly. The rule changes have been the key for much of it, but the "casual" fanbase was a large percentage of viewership, particularly in the playoffs. Also, as I said, Versus has limited reach and positioning on the cable boxes across the USA, but the game is recovering. My point was that NHL owners are not really admired in the USA because of the lockout, no matter if it was the right or wrong thing to do. I could make the same point about baseball players and owners after the strike in the 90's. But yes, I like our new owners. And, raised in Michigan, am a Red Wings fan for life. I just have a much more difficult time following hockey here than I did before the lockout as exposure for the league seems lower. But enough about that.

i live in NYC and for some poxy reason time warner don't carry either setanta or gol tv. since i'm in a managed building i can't put up a dish. imagine how pissed i was when FSC stopped covering the french and german leagues and dropped the aussie rules too. absolute ****s! i keep on at setanta but they have an exclusive satelite deal and won't be on cable for a couple of years at least.
