    Rafa thanks David Moores

Rafael Benitez has paid tribute to David Moores after the departing chairman's decision to sell his majority shareholding in the club.
The Liverpool boss, who met Americans George Gillett and Tom Hicks before training yesterday, is full of admiration for the job Moores has done at Anfield and is pleased he will now become the club's life president.

"I want to say thank you to David Moores," said Benitez. "Thank you for the support you have given me since I came to Liverpool. Thank you for bringing me to Liverpool, and thank you for everything you have done for the club.

"It was not an easy decision for him to sell Liverpool, but he has shown he is a good person and a nice person.

"I'm happy he still has a role to play in the future and hope we can share more success together in the future."

I couldn't have put it better myself.

It does. Whatever has been said about Moores in the past he has always acted in the clubs best interests. Respect where it's due for a true red.

not quite, but if I was at Anfield the next time dear old "Freddie Boswell" shows up and gets the rapturous applause he deserves, I dare say I might have then.

If we, or the Kop I mean, made a mosaic for Moores, or a song, he would sob his heart out from the stands.

I'm just glad that we had the chairman of David Moores' calibre and all I can say is thanks Moores, you've always been a true red and always made decisions in club's favour.

Just the sight of him on the bus when we paraded the European Cup was absolutely brilliant and touching. He almost cried when he gave a little interview...

I wouldn't have been able to sell the club I love.

He may not have been the best Chairman but he is one of us.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

Amen. Commercially he may not have been as astute or ruthless as others, but emotionally and spiritually he has been a giant for this club through some great and terrible times over the last two decades
