£21.6m sponsorship with Carlsberg!
Feb 9 2007
EXCLUSIVE by Chris Bascombe, Liverpool Echo
LIVERPOOL are on the verge of sealing their first multi-million pound sponsorship deal of the new American era with a £21.6m agreement with Carlsberg.
The Reds had already decided to renew their arrangement with the brewing giants prior to the takeover of George Gillett and Tom Hicks.
However, the terms are a massive improvement on the disappointing £5m over two years which was agreed in 2004, just before Liverpool won the Champions League final.
The new deal represents £7.2m a year for the next three seasons - virtually trebling Liverpool’s income from this source per annum.
Carlsberg have been Liverpool’s sponsors since 1992, but although the latest deal is the most lucrative between the pair yet, it still doesn’t compare favourably with those of Manchester United and Chelsea.
United are currently in a £56.5m deal with AIG over four years, while Chelsea struck a deal with Samsung worth £50m a year over five years. Spurs’ shirt deal with Mansion House is worth £34m over four years.
Meanwhile, Momo Sissoko returns to Liverpool’s squad at Newcastle tomorrow as Rafa Benitez ponders a midfield reshuffle in the absence of Xabi Alonso.
Alonso must serve a one-match ban, but with Sissoko and Bolo Zenden back in contention, Benitez is hopeful the loss of the playmaker won’t prove too detrimental.
Sissoko hasn’t featured since dislocating his shoulder against Birmingham in the League Cup last November.
“I think Momo will be okay for tomorrow,” said Benitez. “We were hoping to use him in a reserve game on Wednesday night, but unfortunately it was postponed.
“He’s been training normally, although because of the weather it was a bit more difficult to test him in the last few days.”
Skipper Steven Gerrard will be available despite only playing 45 minutes for England as a precaution because of a thigh problem.

Means we won't have murder next season because the sponsor will remain the same. Suppose 3 years makes sense - complete the current 2 year home kit and then one more home kit and we look elsewhere in time for a joint kit / stadium sponsorship deal.Last edited by PLY; 09-02-07, 01:27 PM."Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest."

I take it you can only get bottles in your local then?Originally posted by ShaggyAlonso View PostWhat the ****? I thought we were canning Carlsberg? That's why I never bothered getting this season's home shirt.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'
"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.
* After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

I'm annoyed about this, and also surprised the new pair have let it happen. To be getting less money than ****ing Spurs is criminal, never mind the millions we trail the vermin and Chelsea by.
