I agree mate but we CAN play terrific football so that's not down to a lack of ability.

But overall mate, away from home we are too easy to beat. Ok we were a bit unlucky today but thats 7 out of 14 lost away in the league. The only half decent team we've beat away is spurs.(and listening to spurs fans on 6-0-6, thats not saying alot)

He reminded me of Terry Henry in the first half today with his pace and the way he was cutting apart Newcastle.

I think Alonso could be the odd man out in center midfield next season as he's been poor by his own standards this season. Mascherano and Momo could provide a great partnership. I rate Mascherano higher than Xabi if he can replicate his international form in the premiership. One hell of a player we've got.

We all saw today how much we missed Xabi today. We had no one at midfield to controll the midfield. Xabi is must start player. If he had Masch behind of him, he would have more freedom with the ball and he would be 15 meters closer to the opposition goal. Masch and Momo at midfield wouldn't offer enough goal threat in my opinion.

We need someone who's going to give SG the mental confidence to get forward without worrying about what's going on behind him, or wwhat happens if we lose the ball with him upfield. The only way we can do that is

1) Play SG on the RM, witH Masher / Momo and Xabi in CM
2) Play Momo / Masher behind SG in CM
3) Play 3-5 -2 with SG ahead of Xabi / Momo and Masher in CM

If we get Alves I think we'll see more of 3-5-2 next season.

did anybody really think we would win a game with zenden and pennant starting?
Clear as mud we need proven quality left back, a quality prospect right back to replace finnan in the long term, 2 quality wingers, minimum 2 proven strikers and a playmaker more consistant than garcia to unlock defenses like last week with everton. Then and only then will we be competing for the title.

Pennant will always have the odd good game, but in my opinion he will never be the starting right winger of a title winning team. He was NEVER first choice when we bought him and it shows. I was delighted for the guy when he scored at chelsea but come on, its February, he's scored what 1 league goal? Doesn't beat his man enough, cuts inside far to much, not enough pace or guile and his crossing isn't consistant enough. Squad player at best for a team like ours.

Don't get me wrong - I like him. He's a decent player, good at most things. But crucially, he's exceptional at nothing. We need better.

I suppose the point I'm making is he's at the same level as Crouch, whereas many Reds make out he's a step up from him. He's not.

I think he is. He's quicker, has better movement and is stronger. They're probably both on equal terms where finishing is concerned but Kuyt is the better player in my opinion.
