Gerrard 'Blown Away' by New Owners

    Gerrard 'blown away' by owners
By Lewis Rutledge - Created on 11 Feb 2007

Steven Gerrard admits he was overjoyed after hearing George Gillett and Tom Hicks' vision for Liverpool.

The American duo agreed a takeover of the club last week and promised to invest massively in both the team and a new stadium.

They have already met both Gerrard and Jamie Carragher to discuss their plans for the club and the Liverpool captain was hugely impressed.

"After 15 minutes we had been blown away by the plans they had for the club," Gerrard told the Sunday Mirror.

"They said they are going to turn Liverpool into the biggest club in the world

"They spoke to us about the new stadium and about some of their plans to invest in the team, but what impressed me most was the assurance that they have come to win things.

"I think people have been a bit disrespectful to Liverpool over the last few years, but I can tell you that is going to change now that the takeover has been completed."

Gerrard concedes he is desperate to win the Premiership before he hangs up his boots, and is confident the glory days are about to return to Anfield.

"I believe that we are still the best club in the land and, with a bit of help from our new owners, there will come a time again when everyone outside Liverpool understands that as well," he warned.

"I would feel that I was a failure if I finished my playing career without winning the league."

Well I think we've had enough talk now from certain people. The time for serious action is just around the corner. Get through the Barca leg and I think we'll stand a chance of making Athens. Fail and the season is all but over.

If Barca put us out it's all about making that final push for the top 4 and looking to the summer. Top 4 is a must if we're to attract the sort of players we need this summer.

Have a peak at the table.

Finishing in the top four is far from a certainty, in my opinion.

But if we win and get there, papering over the cracks springs to mind.

A loss might bring home reality sooner rather than later, and allowing the blood to spill might not be a bad thing. And although it will hurt, losing will give our players a long earned rest inbetween seasons for a change, and allow Rafa time to really evaluate what is required, and allows him decent pre-season training time for once, with all the team this time.

We'll do it easily, infact we'll probably still finish 3rd. Bolton have a far far tougher fixture list than we do, theyve still got to go to Spurs, Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal.

You've been quiet of late so it's no surprise that you're popping up on different forums after yesterday's defeat with your usual negative bile. If I were you I'd give up and go to support someone else
