The number 7 Boccoli, although he was an irritating little ****, showed some neat touches and took his goal extremely well. I was also impressed with the number 10 Alain Masudi though he faded after the ineffectual Zenden went off.

We lacked sharpness in the first half and Alonso, Finnan and Riise all looked short of match fitness. After the break Alonso got more into his stride to control the game. Throughout the match Sissoko was awesome and I thought Pennant had a great second half providing some excellent crosses from the right. I can't remember the last time we had a proper wideman on the right who hugs the touchline and can beat a man. What impressed me most about Pennant, however, was his decision making. He seemed to know exactly when to try to beat the defender, play it simple or get a quick cross in. As I predicted before we bought him (despite being criticised on KT) he will develop into an excellent player and provide an added dimension to the team.

    Sounds like your right m8

I must be the only ****er that hasn't seen them play
pissed off now (makes a note on satellite tv)
I promise I Must watch more Israeli tv

We just need somebody on the end of them. Despite Crouch's height we don't have any forwards who are strong in the air. I'm even almost missing Morientes...

I think we underestimated a little bit myself, however it was clear some players also lacked some match sharpness. Rafa also admitted he knew very little about Haifa in a press conference.

We'll certainly need to be right on it when we go to Cyprus. Thats where the away leg is played right? Its about 100 degrees this time of year!!

they are a good side and the next leg is by no means a straight forward tie. we will have to be at our best to guarantee that we progress to the group stages.
I thought they were pretty average and only our sloppiness - and Hyypia's total lack of pace - let them in a couple of times. They didn't create any sustained pressure and Reina was virtually a spectator. I expect us to win by a couple of goals in the away leg

I thought they were prone to cheating, and if we have a ref and linesman who unerstand the rules we would have beaten them more convincingly.

The linesman on teh main stand side was atrocious, a lot of us were convinced he'd taken a bung particulalry wen you see the two "offside" decisions in the first half.

Haifa should have had players booked for diving.

In two weeks time we'll be fitter and better organised and we can't have officials as bad as those last night.
